I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to address a critical issue regarding my Facebook and Instagram accounts, which were deactivated unexpectedly. My Instagram username is miguelpereira092, and my Facebook username is Miguel Pereira. Although the issue originated on Instagram, it affected both accounts due to their interconnection.

Summary of Events:

  • Phishing Attack and Unauthorized Access: On August 24th, 2024, my Instagram account was accessed without my authorization from an iPhone device. I do not own or use an iPhone; my personal device is an OPPO. This unauthorized access was the first sign of a breach.
  • Impact on My Mobile Device: The attacker not only accessed my Instagram account but also compromised my mobile device, using my MBWAY app to attempt fraudulent transactions. This forced me to cancel my debit card and restore my phone to factory settings to secure my personal data.
  • Account Name Changed Without Consent: On September 26th, 2024, my Instagram account name was inexplicably changed from miguelpereira092 to carlitorguel202021. This change was not made by me and is documented in the email notifications I received.
  • Notification of Deactivation: On September 25th at 11:54 PM, I received an email from Instagram stating that my account was under review for alleged fraudulent activities. However, less than 15 minutes later, at 12:06 AM on September 26th, 2024, my account was permanently disabled, leaving me with no opportunity to appeal or defend myself.
  • Impact on Linked Accounts: Due to the interconnection between my Facebook and Instagram accounts, the deactivation of my Instagram account also resulted in the deactivation of my Facebook account.

Key Concerns:

  1. Unauthorized Activity: The issues began with unauthorized access to my account from an unfamiliar device, followed by changes to my account name without my consent. The attacker also targeted my mobile device, causing significant financial and personal inconvenience.
  2. Documented Evidence: I have all the relevant notifications and details about this case, including the account name change and deactivation, documented in my email inbox. These emails clearly demonstrate the timeline of events and my lack of involvement in any fraudulent activity.
  3. No Opportunity to Appeal: Despite being within the standard 180-day appeal period, I was not provided sufficient time to respond to the deactivation email or access the appeal form.
  4. Baseless Allegations: The accusation of fraud is unsubstantiated. My accounts only contained personal photos, travel memories, and videos. There is no evidence of harmful or fraudulent activity.
  5. Linked Account Impact: The issue originating on Instagram unfairly impacted my Facebook account, further compounding the distress caused.

Request for Immediate Action:

I kindly request the following steps to resolve this matter fairly:

  1. Reinstatement of My Accounts: Given that the allegations against me are baseless, I ask for a thorough review of my account history and reinstatement of both accounts.
  2. Access to the Appeal Process: Please provide me with the appropriate forms or steps to submit an appeal, as I am still within the 180-day appeal window.
  3. Transparency and Evidence: If Meta believes there is evidence of fraud, I request access to any documentation or proof to clarify and resolve any misunderstandings.
  4. Internal Investigation: Review the handling of this case to ensure proper protocols are in place to support victims of unauthorized access, such as myself, and prevent unfair penalties.

This situation has caused significant distress, financial inconvenience, and a loss of important memories stored on these platforms. I believe a fair and transparent review will demonstrate my innocence. As a loyal user who values the connections tied to these platforms, I trust Meta will uphold its commitment to fairness and user rights.
