Air Link not connecting

beep_.boop_
Honored Guest

Like the title says, my air link hasn't been working it just says it can't connect to desktop and I should try resetting the PC app. I don't have any other headsets connected. Things I've tried are: Restarting Link PC app, restarting Quest 2, restarting computer, unpairing and repairing the quest (it doesn't pair, it worked one time and hasn't since), cmd repair windows, doing a repair install of Windows, switching from ethernet to wifi, checking wifi settings, was on public but changing to private didn't fix it. turning off antivirus, factory resetting Quest 2, updating Windows, updating graphics driver, and updating Quest. It's definitely not a connection issue, my internet is really good, and my PC meets requirements for air link. Link through a cable does work but is not an option without getting a really long cable.

Pc Specs

Ryzen 5600x

RTX 3060

16gb(2x8) DDR4 RAM

Windows 11(updated recently)

Ethernet connected, my internet connection is usually 800up/600down

Hello, @beep_.boop_! We see you are having issues with Air Link not connecting. We understand how having issues like this can really slow down an awesome VR experience, so we would love to look deeper into this for you to get to the root of it. We appreciate you providing us with your specs and the troubleshooting steps you have attempted already. Can you please read and try the following listed below so we can know how to proceed with this matter?

  1. Has Air Link worked before?
  2. Are you using mesh networks or wireless extenders? Most mesh networks are likely to cause issues with Air Link as they modulate the connection for the device between the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands, which will cause Air Link to be unstable at best and more than likely fail to connect. Wireless Extenders cause issues for Air Link as they create a new network that is separate from the network created by the Router/Gateway, causing instability as the connection now has to jump from the PC > Router/Gateway > Wireless Extender > Quest and then do the same in the other direction for every frame rendered (a minimum of 72 Hz and up to 120 Hz!)
  3. Are you using the default gateway from your ISP, and/or do you have a password on your network? Gateways are very common pieces of networking equipment, as they are given to many consumers as part of their internet service plan. Comprised of both a modem and a wireless router, being performant isn't really what gateways are known for, and they generally underperform their dedicated counterparts.
  4. Is the router in the same room as the PC and headset? This can be important, as having both devices closer theoretically reduces latency (the time it takes for information to travel between targets) and can offer a smoother experience. It is best practice to ensure that both the headset, PC, and router are as close to one another as possible and with as few occlusions as possible.
  5. Are you using a VPN? (Whether on PC or router) Using a VPN can cause issues for Air Link as it uses your home network to communicate data from your HMD to your PC, and VPNs mask the IP address of affected devices by bouncing the connection around.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to us again if the issue persists, so we can continue to look into this for you. We look forward to hearing back from you soon!
