Airlink Not Working - Quest 2

Kidult101

My Quest 2 could not connect to my Laptop with Airlink, the Meta Quest software just feels like buggy... if anyone could help would be appreciated!

I have been using the quest 2 via Airlink - Wifi to connect my old laptop(Windows 10), not great but working. Sadly, my old laptop died on me and I got a new laptop, and for sure it is upgraded. The new laptop spec: MSI, RTX 4070, i7 13gen, 16Gb ram, Windows 11. I can't link to my new laptop, which is strange... I can use the native remote desktop and can see my laptop in the AirLink search, but can't connect.

I can connect with "Steam Link" via Wifi and play games on Steam... But this means I can't access my game in the Meta store... Maybe I should only buy games on Steam.

Anyone have the same problem with Airlink? Could any expert give some good ideas?

Hi there,

Thank you for sharing! We understand you are encountering issues with Air Link, here are a few steps to get you back on track:

If your headset can't connect to Wi-Fi, use the RouteThis Helps app to diagnose network issues. Ensure that the Meta Quest PC app is open and your computer is on the same network as your Meta Quest.

To troubleshoot Link connection:

  1. With your headset on, press the Meta button on your right Touch controller to access the universal menu.
  2. Hover over the clock on the left-hand side of the universal menu. When Quick settings appears, select it.
  3. Select Link.
  4. If your computer isn't listed, toggle Air Link off and then on.
  5. Select your computer, then Troubleshoot.
  6. Review the metric chart for potential connection issues.

(If Wi-Fi issues persist, connect directly to your Internet modem or router with an Ethernet cable.)

If you can connect and use SteamLink, and your PC is ethernet wired to your router with dedicated 5Ghz close by,  then you should easily be able to use and connect with Air Link imho.  I actually find that Air Link works better than SteamLink, and as well as Virtual Desktop.

If you don't mind being wired, I actually find that my official link cable connected to my z790mb usb3.2 gen2 type-c port works even better.

If not, then you're not using the right ODT and meta-link device graphics settings imho.  A little more google research troubleshooting should help.  For your setup I'd suggest to try meta-link graphics setting at 80Hz refresh rate with the res slider a few notches left of full right (1.1-1.2x).  All ODT settings at default/zeros except distortion = low, dynamic encoding = enabled, and encoding bitrate max = 900mbps.

Nvidia control panel 3d global settings all default except (with laptops) prefer to use high performance nvidia gpu. power = prefer max performance, and below that change quality texture quality default to high performance.

Win10/11 graphics settings, Hardware acceleration graphics (HAGS) disabled and turn game mode off.

I hope this helps mate.  Otherwise, I suggest you contact meta support including your log file (google how to do this) and see if they can help.
