Airlink

Good evening,

I recently got a Meta Quest 3 and want to connect via airlink. However, my PC does not have a wifi card and is connected to the internet solely through an ethernet cable. When I go into the quest headset, go to airlink, and search for my PC, nothing shows up. I am unsure of what to do to solve this, or if I even can solve this. I was told by another person while in VR that they have a setup similar to mine and are able to use their headset wirelessly. I have checked the oculus diagnostic tool and "Encode Dynamic Bitrate" is set to default, and 'Encode Bitrate" is set to "0".

Please advise on if there is a solution, thank you.

Hey there, @UnholyBurito, and thanks for reaching out to the community with the struggles you're having! Actually, having the PC connect to your network via ethernet is preferred for Air Link. As per this article's Best Practices section:

  • Have the PC connected to Router/Access Point via Ethernet cable and not Wi-Fi
  • Headset should be connected to Wi-Fi via 5GHz band (AC or AX)
  • Router in the same room as the headset or in line-of-sight, and at least 1m (3.3ft) off the ground
  • Non-mesh network configuration

From how you describe your symptoms and set up, it seems like the PC's ethernet connection and the Wi-Fi connection are not on the same network. This can happen sometimes when folks are trying to streamline their network performance by isolating connection types, or sometimes on lower-performing default gateway setups from ISPs. While the PC and the headset are able to use the same connection to the Internet, they have no connection to one another and can't see one another. If you have any hubs or signal-boosting tools on the ethernet side, it can also cause similar kinds of behavior. We hope this helps narrow things down for you, please let us know any further details or symptoms you might have when you reply, and screenshots are celebrated around here if you can gather any that are pertinent. Looking forward to your reply!
