Alternative to smartphone for setup of Oculus Quest 2 device?

SHAEGGY

I've ordered an "Oculus Quest 2" for my boys' upcoming birthday but I'm seeing a smartphone is required to do initial setup for this device. No one in my household has a smartphone, so I'm needing to know if the initial setup can be done via a PC or other device? Thanks in advance for answering a noob's question.

Sorry, but you do need either a smart phone or a tablet to set up the Quest or Quest 2. You can create your account on a PC, but you need the app to initially set up the headset.

Mind you, I use my tablet, rather then a smart phone.

Lo, a quest! I seek the threads of my future in the seeds of the past.

Thanks for the reply. I do have an Android tablet (and numerous Kindle Fires, as well) so I'm hopeful that this device will be able to successfully do the initial Quest 2 setup. Is this through an app, available via the Google Play Store, or just the standard Oculus website?

It should. The app is on the Apple and Google Play stores.

If I use a friend's smartphone to do the setup, would it link to their Facebook account? And is it truly a one-time setup so they can delete the app and I won't have to bug them again? I don't have a smartphone either.

Only if you linked your friend's facebook account, I'd assume. The app is really only needed to register the Quest to your Oculus account.

Thank you for the fast reply @Pixie40 . That sounds like it should work, I just need to sign in to my FB on his cel.

ONE of these days I'll have to get a smart phone but I'm putting it off as long as possible lol

Or just get an affordable android tablet. Who needs a phone smarter then they are anyway?

Oh! That's an idea. Would the tablet need to have cel service for the app to work? I should be able to just connect that to my wifi, I think.

Thank you again for the help.

Do you have a wifi router? If so, connect your tablet to your network. No cell service needed.
