Another disappointed costumer

Having the same problems as others. Can anybody explain why not only the problems after the update are not solved but now everything is worse? The left Touch that was working well now is jumping as the right one. Both are working bad since the beggining. Before I could play during a period of time until the problems would appear. My situation now is, I can't use my Rift. Hope this is solved in short term, if not I know where my money is going. I bet for Oculus and was wrong.

Wow, very well done oculus team, you have really done it.
FFS i even wanted to avoid this retarded update since I knew you will just mess stuff up but this is beyond everything.
My oculus home updated even though I have never authorized it, killed processes when it tried to update itself at exiting OH, and I HAVE EVEN SET IN AND OUTBOUND RULES IN FIREWALL TO BLOCK EVERYTHING THATS OCULUS.
Still, my client has ninjaupdated itself.
This is getting silly.

congrats on ignoring my firewall rules though.
not sure you had the right to do this but congrats for the feat anyway.
not even windows10 was this disobedient.
with this you have convinced me to sell this crap and never to pay a penny to faceculus ever again.
Since the runtime (the driver you call a platform but treat it as a service, yeah that) is getting more problematic with the updates I can`t even block with microsoft firewall and installs an unreasonably huge (and growing) runtime that way surpasses complete steam client PLUS steamVR in size in a directory I can NOT chose, i feel like telling everyone i have advertised your poop before to just forget it and get anything else but the rift. looks good, works crappy (for the few weeks it works without any component failing).
Seriously guys, go fornicate yourselves. You have warmed up on me (and the other customers) so it shouldn't be hard.

@Galuz
Wow, you are one of the rare exceptions i imagine.

@Hermesgb
Don't even bother. Going by experience, it will get even worse. I`m pretty sure before the end of this year, all major studios will back out from oculus support.
Most of the indie devs did already. Feeling like a fool to stick with them this long, should have realized and jumped ships right after the fb acquisition.

@matskatsaba, I don't know what your specific problems are, but I might suggest that you wouldn't be the first person to bring problems on yourself by actively trying to interfere with the normal function of the software.

@Hermesgb, have you tried running the full setup since the update? If your Touch controllers have been bad from the beginning, have you tried opening a support ticket?

And also... "Another disappointed costumer"

What does this have to do with making costumes?

I am about to load Oculus Home and see what this update is all about. I read a positive article about the new update on Facebook yesterday, so Im a bit shocked to see so many complaints on the forum.

Nalex, my specific problems are with tracking - which I didn`t encounter on 1.10.
I wouldn't call a firewall block an interference, it should equal an unplugged lan cable from OH`s perspective.
Also i wouldn`t have problems (or at least not to the extent of rendering the oculus unenjoyable) if i could have kept the prev runtime, the only reason I wanted to block 1.11 since i`ve seen more than enough disappointed users after the update, but I`m fairly confident you could have concluded this information from my original post.
I did NOT modify anything, i actually wanted to have stuff stay the same as it was working before.
Do note, that if I wouldn`t have tried to block oculus from the internet, it would have committed suicide regardless.

While there is still a chance I can fix this since thankfully did a bootdrive image backup last week, it would have been a blast if my weekend isn't about fixing stuff that wasn`t supposed to break in the first place.
So with that all said, thank you for your totally useless advice.
The main point would have been to avoid wasting time fixing something that wasn`t broken originally.

I`ll explain it in different words again, so one of the versions might sink in:

I planned to sit out this update and apply it when i`m 100% sure it won`t do anything bad, and my suspicion was actually right, a lot of users having problems.
The basic problem is the fact that the oculus home ignores your settings, and a third party software is not supposed to be able to make modifications to your operating system's settings without consent.

You need to comprehend, that I did not do anything with oculus software.
I changed system settings on my OS as an administrator, and Oculus has overridden it without consent.
I don`t agree but it`s within oculus team`s rights to force an update on me, fineprint suxx.
However it is not acceptable that a third party software meddles with administrator settings.

The reason I don`t care when steam updates itself is the fact that it didn't break anything. Ever.
(Also, when I block steam in firewall rules, it just won`t allow to log in, browse the store or buy new content, but can still use the apps I have purchased and installed already).
This is the third time oculus home ninja update gave me an extra day of work.

PS, don`t be a grammar nazi, there might be dozens of tailors specialized on making costumes and are also disappointed with oculus. 😉

Probably there was no point in replying to you but who knows.

Before you revert to your earlier drive image, I'd suggest you run the Oculus log gatherer and send the report off to Oculus so they at least have a chance to see what's wrong. They're really not in the business of wrecking your stuff, they're trying to fix problems. If something about your specific system or setup is problematic, then getting that information to them might help.

So far I tried:

1) First Contact
2) The Climb
3) Unspoken (the new map)
4) Dead & Buried

I'm good with 2 sensors. whew!

When the 3rd comes in I hope things are swell. If enough people complain between now and when my new sensor arrives... maybe Oculus will have a better fix in place. A win-win!

The update itself was wrong/the problem.
Well, technically it was, practically i'd say hardware design flaw maybe. My problem wasn`t about the intent, i imagine the staff wants better performing devices, however intent alone isn't enough - and given the scale of problems, they still didn't get it right, so it is questionable if an update that doesnt really fix anything is necessary and compulsory or not.
Microsoft wanted users to have an up to date and safe operating system with the GWX program too.
Well, MS tried to appear as if you had an actual choice dismissing the update, but I wouldn't say its straightforward).

So the "they are on your side, no matter how it seems" type of advices don`t help much.
Neither "interference with its designed behavior might be a bad idea" types, since its designed behavior ended up becoming problematic from a more or less perfectly working state.
Now, when they dont even give me an option to stay out of risky updates, why should I waste my time on being a betatester for their updates I never asked for? Feels like "they forced the beta sh** on you already so might as well test it out so they can see what they screwed up", no thanks. That was ok with devkits, not for final product that has a 800$+vat pricetag. To be honest, I didn't have as many problems with the beta hardware as with the final product that is explained to be expensive because its a refined, final consumer hardware (sorry, platform).
At least windows10 has the Windows Insider Program for mazo ppl who want to test updates and features that were not properly (or at all) tested.

Anyway, managed to sort it with a hardware hotfix (ie duct tape, probably you`ve seen that topic already by now).
Regardless of that, reverted to 1.9 and banned oculus adresses in hosts file, no way in nine hells i`m going to let my weekend ruined by incompetent fools.

Highlighted the actually important part in the post 😄

Did the update just come out today? I haven't had any issues with Touch up to this point on my system, have to test it out tonight and see if everything is still running well.
