Any way to remove the head strap / headphones?

DavidLively

I'm a developer and have to put this thing on and take it off about every 5 minutes. I'd like to be able to just hold it up to my face for a second and see what's rendering without having to take my glasses off, etc. which is something of a pain.

Is there any convenient way to remove, or at least rotate out of the way, the headstrap +headphones without breaking the damn thing?

You can remove the headphones. There is a small black plastic screw-driver that comes with it, you unscrew it from the inside of where the headphones attach. Unfortunately, the straps cannot be removed.

I use the headset with glasses, it can work. You just may need to get glasses with thinner frames. Usually the rimless glasses will work better. See this thread for the glasses I'm using and work well.

Thanks for the advice.

I have to ask - what do your devs do? Not so much about the glasses, but with the put-on/take-off/put-on/etc.

I have a small tripod for my Vive so that I can just lean over and take a look when necessary (their straps come off pretty easily).

I'm tempted to pull out the Really Sharp Scissors (tm) and just cut the side straps behind the headphones, put in some velcro and call it a day.  Perhaps y'all should make a DK3. 🙂

I'm interested in this as well. I'm both a developer, and a cochlear implant user so it's annoying to have to deal with constantly putting it on and taking it off, and knocking my hearing transmitter off.

Scissors are looking pretty good too! I'd do it, except I'm wary about cutting important wires inside the straps. I don't mind cutting the wires if it's audio only, but if it's also important for the headset to work, then well...

Huh... according to this, there are infrared lights embedded in the back side of the strap. So cutting it is a no go  😞

Hello,

You can't remove the headstrap, however. You can remove the headphones by using a flat-head screwdriver. On the inside of the headstrap where the headphones are located. You'll see a small circle with a 8cm indent, simply use a flat-head screw driver and twist counter clockwise (going left) for a few rotation and the headphones will come out. Hope this helps!

Note: there's a small plastic flat-head screw driver that came in the box with the rift.

Sorry to necro a thread, but just being able to rotate the strap up further fixes this for me. I found I could cut a couple tabs inside to make that happen: https://twitter.com/sethwklein/status/1105584615807508483 . (If I'd known I could do that, I might have bought a Rift instead of a Vive for personal use.)
