App Sharing and Supervised Account on Quest 3

Hiu,

the app sharing feature is extremely broken!

I have enabled sharing with my 10 year olds supervised account. The android app notifies when he requests approval, but then when i click the notification an invisible window pops up from the bottom of the app (can see the transition but no screen appears).

So I instead use the family centre to approve the apps. This then adds them to the approved by parent list, but they do not appear in the library list (neither on the family or the approve account on the quest).

Whenever we try and access an app from the child account it downloads the app again to the childs profile (it takes some time to dwnload each one, so it is definitely downloading them again!).

When approving the app via the family centre, i am taken to a shop sccreen despite the apps already having been purchased. Cancelling this does not make the games go to the library. There seems to be no way to reactivate the buy message after cancelling once.

Please help, this is an expensive piece of kit and it's extremely frustrating for everybody trying to use these features.

Every part of this process seems so buggy!

Hey @perkypercy! Thanks for reaching out! We definitely want to make sure the family experience is easy and fun for kids in VR, so we're always looking for ways to improve the ease-of-use and features of our Parental Supervision tools! Being able to share those apps with him is definitely important, so that you aren't overspending on extra copies of a game, so we'd love to help out with taking a look into what might be going on!

  • Was the request feature working for the child account before app sharing was enabled on the device?
  • When app sharing, is he attempting to access the applications across devices, or is he on the same headset as the parental account with the enabled app sharing?
  • Which account is the admin account on the Quest 3?
  • Try disabling and re-enabling the app share feature

Instead of clicking on the notification for the approval, try navigating to your parent dashboard in parental supervision. At the top of the dashboard, you should see any new notifications (bell icon). Tap the notification for the blocked app, and then tap the ellipsis (...) to see details about the app.

  1. Tapping Allow will grant access to the app
  2. If Allow is not tapped, the app will remain blocked.

After granting access through this method, does it still bring up the store page prompting you to purchase the app instead?

Let us know if that worked out or not, and we'll see what else we could try!

Hey @perkypercy! Just checking back in to see if you were still having issues with app sharing to your parental supervised account. We're still here and more than happy to help out if you'd let us know how the above worked out for you!

Hope to hear from you soon!

I am having this same issue.

I purchase a game (In this case, Cave Digger 1) on the admin account on the headset.  It successfully is added to the library and I can install it on the headset.

Then I switch to my child’s profile on the headset and search for the game.  It allows me to add it to the library/install it on their profile.  Then they click to start playing on their profile and it prompts them to request permission, which they do.

I (the parent) use the Meta Horizon app to approve the request, and then it takes me to the shop to “complete the purchase”.  I am able to cancel out of there but then the permission screen tells me that their access is “pending purchase”.

App sharing is turned on and working for other games.

Will try all the “turning it off and back on again” and removing and re-adding profiles stuff, but this is obviously a common hiccup that should probably be addressed!

Hi @mama_mouse

Thanks for notifying us about this.

You're right, the procedure in the event of a problem with your account is instinctively to switch your headset off and on again and reinstall the profiles.

However as a first step, we recommend the following.

Similar problems.

  • 10 yo requests and app
  • I approve from notification
  • Proceed to purchase both for my own profile and "as a gift" and with trial
  • Attempted with games "Moss" and "The curious case of the stolen pets"
  • None of these are available for my daughter's profile to access.
  • I don't seem able to make purchases for the supervised account or to gift

The whole user experience for families is pretty terrible. I'm a tech consultant and regard myself with better than average knowledge of new tech. But this process is so unclear.

I have gone into apps and checked they're shared. They are, but still not available for my daughter's profile
