Asgard's wrath stuttering?

So I recently decided to actually get through Asgard's Wrath with the second one coming real soon. problem is it stutters so bad as to be unplayable. I made sure nothing else is running. I have tried the physx fix I found on redit to make sure it is set to my video card. I made sure the Oculus runtime was the highest priority in my task manager. quality settings make no difference. It just starts stuttering so bad its unplayable and I dont know what to do here. I have a 10700KS processor, 32gb of Ram. a 3070 TI.  If I try opening the oculus menu it goes crazy and is completely unplayable.  I dont know what else to do here.  standalone games run amazing. Steam games are like butter on max settings. the only game I have trouble with is Asgard's Wrath.  I am on an NVME SSD even. I dont have any idea what is causing this or what else to try. Considering this is an action combat game especially when it starts doing this it is unplayable. I dont know what else to do here.

Hello! Would you mind posting 2 screenshots of your game view showing the game performance overlay and the Oculus Link performance overlay ? Because the stutters could come from the network or the game (maybe your PC isn't the issue), and these screenshots would be able to tell where to look to start with 😉

To display the overlays, you will need to open OculusDebugTool. Then, to show the VR View on your PC, you will need to open OculusMirror.

I use the official oculus link cable not internet connection so I don't think that is involved.

I will look into this though and try and do it later today when I have some time.

I will need to figure out the screenshots anyway.

In the process of trying to do this I don't know how to do these overlays you are requesting. I am going to need a comprehensive step by step direction here.  I don't mind getting those screenshots for you but I have no idea how to do so.

Hi there, @slaaneshgod! We hope you are having a great day. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We would love to help you get screenshots of Asgard's Wrath gameplay from your headset.

To take a screenshot from your Meta Quest Pro or Meta Quest 2 headset:

  • Press and hold the Oculus on the right controller, then pull the right trigger.
  • A blinking red dot will appear in VR to indicate that a picture is being taken. Once the picture is taken, you can select the notification that will appear to view your photo. You can also view photos you've taken in File Viewer.

If these steps do not help answer your question, please reach back out to us for further assistance. We look forward to talking with you soon!

Thank you for the screenshot instructions I appreciate that.

the part I dont know is how to get them the screenshots they wanted with these overlays. I dont know how to do these overlays.  they wanted "2 screenshots of your game view showing the game performance overlay and the Oculus Link performance overlay" I have no idea how to do that or even what those are.

Sorry I am such an idiot

That explains a lot, so thanks for clarifying, @slaaneshgod! No worries, you're definitely far from being an idiot! VR tech can be pretty finicky and complicated. You seem to know a lot with how complexly you're describing the issue along with that you've tried, so we appreciate that a lot.

What @Loki__VR seems to be talking about is the software native tool called Oculus Debug Tool. Another overlay tool that could be worth looking into could be the OVR Metrics tool, however, this one is more suited for developers. Both used for measuring performance within an application or experience. The OculusMirror.exe they were referring to would be the Compositor Mirror, which is used for mirroring the display inside the headset to your PC. It also has display options available for helping with troubleshooting, development, and presentations. This is all getting a bit overly complicated, so we'd love to bring this one back to the basics!

Do you get this sort of stuttering on any other Oculus software games? If you don't have any other Oculus software titles, we recommend checking out some of these free ones here! Since your menu goes crazy when opening it during use, it may be that the Oculus software itself needs a fresh reinstall:

  1. Disconnect the Link cable from the computer
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet
  3. Backup any necessary content.
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode.
  5. Uninstall the Oculus PC app using the Control Panel.
  6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder: C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    1. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    2. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    3. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    4. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    5. C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode
  9. Reconnect your computer to the internet
  10. Install the Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here!
  11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and re-test the headset

Let us know how reinstalling that works out, and if you still get the same stuttering in any other games on our software! We'd love to continue helping out after that.

I will give this a shot and test some of these other games later tonight.  I know quest native games such as re4vr and assassins creed nexus run great on my quest 3 or quest 2. the quest 2 is impressive sometimes on that. all my other PCVR titles are through steam so I will have to test some of these free ones. I have wanted lone echo and stormlands but still havent gotten them. Again I thank you and I will test this and report back. probably in a few days as I have alot going on the next 2 and probably won't get time to test and do that reinstall right away.  Will report back when I have!

Forgot battle sister was on both now. installed it on PC version and it ran as smooth as butter. Forgot how fast paced that game was. LOL

so I got a chance to try the uninstall and reinstall steps you shared. it seems to still do it. I really dont know why.  When I check my PC system performance i am about 80% and sometimes as high as 86% on my GPU, about 60% on my ram, and my cpu is like 35% ish that one fluctuates up and down like 3 or 4% and that was in the middle so maybe 30% and maybe 40%. it still almost locks up sometimes though. It is on my NVME drive and this is a whole fresh install. had to start over again because of it. I can run Cyberpunk on max settings at almost 90 FPS.  I just cant turn on ray tracing overdrive. that runs smoothly. every other native or steam VR game runs smoothly. Hells the second asgards wrath is out as of friday and even that seems to be running fine. GRRR I dont understand it.
