Right now I run 2 GTX 780s. so a GTX 970 or AMD 290 graphics card equivalent or greater and two GTX 780s are definitely equivalent if not better than a 970 and even a 980.

But it seems that all VR tests only read one Card and not if any are in sli.

I did the Steam test and it fell in the 75 percent area in the Capable. But is it testing Sli?

Since the oculus test offers no numbers or actual benchmarks... Ill use the Steam VR Test.

Test 1:
 Average Qualtiy 4.1
Frames tested 9519
Frames below 90 0 0%
Frames CPU bound 0 %

Test 2:
3.9
9850
0
0

test 3:
4
9548
0
0

My intentions with the OR

The movie theatre
Virtual Desktop
Tabletop Sim
Arma 3

My questions are;

Does the Steam VR base its results on the SLI but only reads it as a single card?
Is there any test that tests the SLI?
What are other results of a 980/970/ and other 780s?

I am running a i7 4770k CPU
32gb of ram

I've used SLI for years. It has benefits, but overall it's not worth it due to software compatibility issues, etc. Specifically for VR, it's basically useless (or worse, nearly no performance benefit plus additional latency). While there are special APIs allowing developers to support multi-GPU, no games I know of have implemented this. It is, and has really always been, better to get one single powerful GPU rather than using two lesser GPUs.

I wouldnt say it is useless. Aside from VR which I cannot speak on, It increases my performance better than a single 970, and over clocked it out performs a 980.

Right, you can still use SLI to play 2D games, I was referring to VR specifically.

So what about games that do support SLI?

Games like Arma 3 - Fooled around with it on the DK2
Assetto Corsa
Watching a movie in the 3D theater?
*Table Top Sim?
*Minecraft?
*aaaaa! for the awesome
*Euro/American Truck sim
*Halflife source
*trackmania 2

*Games one card can push over 100fps

if the game already supports SLI such as Assetto or Arma 3 does that cross over to its VR playablity?

Games such as Table top sim or Minecraft, two games where I can push well over 100-200 Frames+ on one card be ok for VR?

What does the future of VR hold? will SLI cards be supported in the future? how will DX12 hit VR?

I know the Vive pushes raw data to the headset which uses less processing power whereas the OR uses a type of camera. But I dont think that has much to do with the GPU?

How would it effect things like watching a 3D Movie or using Virtual Desktop? Playing a game on Virtual Desktop?

My previous post to you, I feel I was kinda a dick. I am sorry for that btw. I suppose I am a little frustrated because I Overclocked one card and got better performance than my friend running a 970. I pushed more frames then him and his quality with the SteamVR test showed a 7.1 where as mine was a 4.5

No problem. I actually have three GTX 980's on my home machine and I'm just as disappointed as everyone else having spent that money and having 2 cards disabled most of the time.

SLI causes latency issues in VR, as each card is rendering the nth frame .. rather than each screen. Even for that you need perfect timing and sync. VR is very sensitive to cohesion of image. Companies are working on it but it is still in very early stages.

All you need to do is stay above 90 frames a second (to match the 90hz refresh rate of the screens)

Edit: on a single GPU

Ok, one thing I didnt do... Which I just did...

Disabled SLI.

I went from pushing 9500-9800 frames with a average quality of 3.7-4 (SLI enabled)
To- 9461 frames, with an average quality of 5.

Now my buddy pushed almost the exact same frames. with a higher quality of around 7.1

What is this test actually looking for. (My Card is over clocked where as his is stock.)

I am pulling my hair out here.
