Right now I run 2 GTX 780s. so a GTX 970 or AMD 290 graphics card equivalent or greater and two GTX 780s are definitely equivalent if not better than a 970 and even a 980.

But it seems that all VR tests only read one Card and not if any are in sli.

I did the Steam test and it fell in the 75 percent area in the Capable. But is it testing Sli?

Since the oculus test offers no numbers or actual benchmarks... Ill use the Steam VR Test.

Test 1:
 Average Qualtiy 4.1
Frames tested 9519
Frames below 90 0 0%
Frames CPU bound 0 %

Test 2:
3.9
9850
0
0

test 3:
4
9548
0
0

My intentions with the OR

The movie theatre
Virtual Desktop
Tabletop Sim
Arma 3

My questions are;

Does the Steam VR base its results on the SLI but only reads it as a single card?
Is there any test that tests the SLI?
What are other results of a 980/970/ and other 780s?

I am running a i7 4770k CPU
32gb of ram

@About47Pandas   although ... saying that .. I was content with my 970 ... virtually all games running at frame rates that are beyond 50-60 fps at max settings in worst scenarios (which is plenty enough for your brain and eyeballs) ... now my pretty little card is going to have to go ... boooo
Core i7-7700k @ 4.9 Ghz | 32 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance @ 3000Mhz | 2x 1TB Samsung Evo | 2x 4GB WD Black
ASUS MAXIMUS IX HERO | MSI AERO GTX 1080 OC @ 2000Mhz | Corsair Carbide Series 400C White (RGB FTW!)

Be kind to one another 🙂

All you need to do is stay above 90 frames a second (to match the 90hz refresh rate of the screens)

Edit: on a single GPU

Me and my friend had our machines side by side (with my SLI enabled) which I suppose brought down the quality since blah blah blah every x frame is handled by the other GPU and syncing problems.

Just did the test as I said in my previous post with out SLI enabled and got a higher quality score of 5 I pushed over 110 fps or high at all times.

What about Nvidias 3d vision? Some people say that nvidia 3d vision could have been using this for years (sli aparently worked better with it than 2d monitor).

Will VR be getting into Split frame rendering?

I dunno... x_X is there a source where people have tested Current gen VR on 780s or anything not recommended?

@About47Pandas   Sustained? or Max FPS?

With the steam VR test I was staying around 118-128 at all times, There was moments at the beginning where It was at 110, but I feel like it was loading?  After that, It never dropped below 118. I just got done pushing my GPU a little further and ran the test again. Never went below 120 stayed between 120-128... still says I had a quality score of a high 4 and low 5.

Is it merely just because I have a 780 and not their recommended 970 or higher? is it just some marketing ploy here? I am getting frustrated that my card/s are pushing better numbers than a 970 and its just bologna...

also,  The steam VR, isnt really SLI compatible. I turned off my SLI and I still ran the same numbers.

whats your cpu? you say you have a 780gtx?

oh 4770! sorry bout that

yeah its your GPU better start saving!

edit: there is a futuremark VR test demo? maybe try that,,, there also is a normal futuremark score (i cant remember but about 12000) that if you reach you are fine for VR
remember that some of the features in the driver only work on maxwell cards and up

I have 3dMark. did they add scores to the benchmark?

Its not about saving. --- But you say that for what reason? If I am pushing the same numbers if not better than a 970 even marginally what does a 970 have aside from some multi res shading? Gameworks VR supports GTX 5xx and up and Oculus runtime supports 6xx and up.

the 900 series were based on general design of the 780 ( features, not arcitechture)

Nvidia has does this crap before, pulling an apple and force features off to encourage an upgrade. but custom Drivers (which I dont recommend unless you know that stuff, or know someone about that, I dont at the moment) and overrides would fix that.

Im trying to figure out what to expect if I drop 600 dollars on rift, listing what I would plan on running, could I watch movies, play games I know push over 90 fps etc etc. I am still researching and looking things up but I figured id come to the source.

Lemme pull up my 3dmark scores -- to update

On a single card

http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8244768

Scored a 9233 where they say 9271 is HTC vive and OR minimum specs.

SLI
http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8244745
Scored a 14296 well above the 9271

Both scores are stock.

you should be fine, ive heard of people using lesser cards than the 780
you will be unsupported tho thats the thing, same with my DK2 its unsupported

many people are dissapointed about SLI as they feel they should get what they paid for and no-one likes their system being dissed

Now I did run the VRMark Scene two, and it ran great visually. I couldnt my overlay to show my frames persecond though. I dont know why.

But obviously I dont have a headset so I did it via my monitor. Does it push the correct data as it would through the headset?
