So far this happens with Farlands and Decent Underground ....
When I start some games, the headset starts as usual, but I get a black screen and hourglass on the Rift, while the game displays normally in a windows on the monitor.
I'm currently seeing this problem in multiple steamVR games, "The Lab" Long bow game is especially bad. The game starts and plays fine and within 5-10 minutes the headset screen goes black with a small loading egg timer in the bottom right corner. The steam overlay/ Oculus home overlay still can be displayed fine and tracking is fine on the menus, however no game image is shown. The game can still be seen on the monitor just fine and continues to play. In one game I managed to get the image back by spamming the Oculus home overlay a few times but this doesn't work in all titles.
Don't have team viewer installed so that can't be the problem for me.
I'd consider disabling anti-virus. Though I'm not sure about this issue in particular, I've heard of various strange conflicts with anti-virus. I'd also check to see if you have any other GPU overlay programs running like MSI Afterburner, EVGA Precision, FRAPS, or RivaTuner. They could all cause issues.
I'm having this same issue in EVE: Valkyrie. I've only got Lucky's Tale and E:V right now, but Lucky's tale runs absolutely fine, as do all the other apps I've tried using, but in E:V sometimes I can play 20 minutes with no issues, then random image drop with hourglass for 30 seconds to a minute (sound keeps going, controller rumbles because I fly into stuff, but image is paused), then it comes back and just intermittently happens. Other times, it'll do this right when the game starts (haven't even gotten past the tutorial part yet. farthest I've gotten was shooting the mines in to learn the weapon systems).
Now, I will say that my specs are
Windows 7 GTX 980Ti i7 950 @3.07 Ghz 12 Gb RAM PCI USB 3.0 card Firewall completely disabled, no other programs running
So my processor makes it say that Im not at spec, but literally everything runs fine except E:V stopping momentarily. It runs perfectly fine with no graphical issues during the random stretches of time that the game is running, which can be anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes at which point I just turn the game off because I get tired of stopping every few minutes and waiting for it to come back.
UPDATE: I checked speedfan and task manager, and temps/memory use are all 100% fine as well. Every time it would randomly stop I'd quickly check the status of the two. It must be something software related.
UPDATE #2: Okay, so I installed the latest drivers for my Mobo's USB 3.0 ports, and uninstalled the Fresco drivers. Then I removed a USB 2.0 hub that I had plugged in, unplugged all unneeded (at the moment) USB devices, and my second monitor (all this in an attempt to alleviate any possible power issues) and now everything works fine in EVE (got top kills in my first 2 matches~). Not sure which one of the various things I did fixed it, but it was definitely fixed 100%. In fact, I noticed the headset heating up like it never has before, which I think indicates it was getting more power now.
