Black screens on Oculus PC app instead of mirroring PC screens.

Please fix finally the bug - in the Oculus PC app I see black screens instead of mirroring screens of my PC ASUS ROG Stryx G513I (Win 10). Fall 2021 I spent several months chatting with Oculus support - but their loopingly repeated advices didn't help to fix this bug.

Horizon Workrooms, Virtual Desktop, Immersed, BigScreen successfully mirroring PC screens in VR. But the Oculus PC app shows black screens instead of PC screens.

If you have not already done so, check whether you have activated HDR, if so, deactivate it.

1. Select the Start button, then select Settings > System > Display
2. Under “Brightness & color” turn off Use HDR.

EDIT: For Win 10 the HDR Setting is under  Settings > System > Display > Windows HD Color settings.

@FUNtastic , thank you for your advice, But it seems that HDR is already off on my system.photo_2024-02-13_05-48-55.jpg

@MetaQuestSupportI have turned on and off "Stream HDR Video" - but mirroring screen remains black.

Hey @YanaArtis, thank you for this update and attempting those steps! On your PC, we would like to confirm the following settings are set :

  1. Go to Windows SettingsSystem DisplayGraphics Settings
  2. Click Graphics performance preference
  3. Click Choose an app to set preference > Desktop app
  4. Locate your OVRServer_x64.exe. By default, this will be located as follows:
    1. C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-runtime\OVRServer_x64.exe
  5. Click Add
  6. Set this to Power Saving, then close the settings menu and click Save
  7. Reset the computer and test VR Desktop

Once completed, if the issue persists, we do ask that a bug report is submitted here, since it has been some time since this issue was originally reported. From there, we'll continue working to get things running smoothly.

I switched OVRServer_x64.exe from "Let Window decide" to "Power saving" mode, then resetted PC. Now I can see mirrored displays. But graphics in Oculus PC app becomes very laggy, especially when I turn my head. It seems, camera angle changes not smoothly but about 5 frames per second, with black areas on the edges of the viewpoint.

I started Unity and ran my simple Unity VR app. Oculus App restarted after I ran my app.

Arizona Sunshine 2 now has black screen forever (at least for ~10 minutes until I turned the game off).

Asgard's Wrath 1 runs - but with the terrible lags I've described above.

We appreciate you getting back to us! While we're happy to hear with some adjustments you were able to see a mirrored display, we do want to address the lagging and black screens now seen when attempting to enjoy your PC games.

If you haven't already, we do recommend making sure your GPU drivers are fully up-to-date on their latest software versions. Once confirmed, please test how your games continue to appear. If any issues persist, we may need to switch the graphics preference to high performance in order to have everything running smoothly.

@MetaQuestSupportI have updated my NVIDIA Studio Driver to the version 551.23 (release date: 01/24/2024)
I have installed all required updates of drivers via MyASUS application. But Oculus PC app remained laggy. I switched OVRServer_x64 to "High performance" then rebooted PC. Now evetything is smooth in PC VR mode, but Oculus PC app shows black screens instead of mirrored PC displays.photo_2024-02-13_18-27-59.jpg

Hey again! This is not what we like to see, and we want to help you get back on track and logged into your PC app. We suggest that you perform a clean uninstall and reinstall of the PC app. This will remove all traces of the previously installed software and install the most up-to-date version, removing any potential corrupt or old files the repair did not address.

  1. Disconnect the Rift/Link cable from the computer.
  2. Disconnect your computer from the internet.
  3. Backup any necessary content. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  4. Reboot into Safe Mode. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  5. Uninstall the Oculus PC app using the Control Panel. You can find steps on how to do so by clicking here.
  6. Delete all Oculus folders from the following folder: C:\Program Files
  7. Remove any Oculus folders from the following locations:
    1. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData
    2. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Local
    3. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\LocalLow
    4. C:\Users\YourUserProfile\AppData\Roaming
    5. C:\OculusSetup-DownloadCache
  8. Restart your computer in normal mode.
  9. Reconnect your computer to the internet.
  10. Install the Oculus PC app again using the setup tool from our website here.
  11. Reconnect the Rift/Link cable and test the headset once more.
