CV1 Jitter/Stutter/Judder Issue

Iguanaonastick

Hello,

I just got my CV1 yesterday and am having problems with judder.  Other than the initial calibration screen with the green lines, every program I run has the same problem, despite running at 90 FPS.  When my head is still I have a clear picture, but when I move the picture stutters.  I have tried all of the following:

*Closing all other programs
*Reinstalling Oculus app
*Reinstalling graphics drivers
*Moving the sensor
*Covering any potentially reflective surfaces
*Switching USB ports

Any other ideas?  Would love to get this thing working, seems like it'll be fun once I do!

System specs:

Zotac GeForce GTX 970
16 GB DDR3 SDRAM
ASRock Z75 Pro3
i7-3770K @ 3.5 Ghz (overclocked to 4.0)

Have you disabled Anti-Virus? On rare occasions I will experience this problem, but it's usually after I've had my PC on for half the day, I launched way too many Apps, alt-tabbing through everything for well over an hour, etc.

If I reboot my Machine and just stick to Oculus VR, then it is a 100% pleasant experience for hours and hours.

If this is an old machine that you upgraded specifically for Rift support, then I would recommend a full PC cleansing; or even a full OS re-install. Just to make sure hidden processes are gone.

I had problems with my gpu core clock sticking at 501mhz instead of full 900. Check with afterburner if your gpu is at full load in oculus home when hmd is on your head. Had to plug usb in and out and restart oculus home. In a certain combination to get my 900mhz back. Then everything was smooth. Try Usb unplug, close oculus home, start oculus home and plug usb in again. If not try a different combination.

@Zenbane Tried disabling antivirus, no luck.  Also tried restarting.  I did a full clean OS re-install just a couple months ago in preparation, hoping not to have to do it again.

@Saschb2b GPU core clock is as it should be (1075 MHz), the GPU and processor aren't at full load.  Framerate is high (75-90), and I still have the problem. The visuals that appear on my monitor look fine, it's just in the headset that they look stuttery.  Tried unplugging and replugging with restarts, no luck either.

Starting to worry it's a hardware problem, either with my Rift (headset or sensor) or my graphics card.

Sorry to here about the trial n' error woes @Iguanaonastick

I have a 980 and I have read other forums stating that the 970 struggles a bit with some of the newer content being released. But nothing to the effect that you describe. Before you start taking out hardware it may be worthwhile to pinpoint things you can use successfully.

For example, do you have Steam installed? Have you tried Steam VR? If not check that out and see what you can do with a clear picture. Also, things worth trying:

1) Install BigScreens from Steam - a free virtual desktop. What happens if you try to watch Netflix or YouTube videos from here?

2) What about watching 360 degree videos in Jaunt (free in Oculus Store) or Oculus Video?

Ouch! If I were you the next thing I would do is find a place locally that sells "VR Ready" machines, such as Best Buy. Ask them if you can take your Rift over there to test it on their Oculus Ready desktops. Then you'll know for sure if it's a problem with your Rift or your home PC.

@Zenbane That is a great idea - I'll let you know how it goes!
