CV1 PC Hardware incompatibility and upgrades towards resolution (key fault: no headset image)

Hello all - my Rift didn't work straight out of the box even though everything looked promising.

Here's what I did to get a working solution.

CPU Intel Core i7
MEMORY 24GB
GPU GeForce GTX 570 (dual DVI adapter + HDMI)
Windows 10 64 bit

Graphics drive updated to latest version. Primary display is via DVI port. HDMI port is tested and fully functional to second monitor.

Oculus RIft DK1 works OK.

Rift consumer release software installs OK, recognizes hardware and goes through set up until it's time to put on the headset then nothing.
The headset has a solid orange light and no image.

UPGRADE 1: Research and troubleshooting suggests trying DVI to HDMI adaptor. Cost:
£17.50 GBP

No change. Re-installed software and went through set up until it's time to put on the headset then still nothing.
The headset has a solid orange light and no image.

UPGRADE 2: Research and troubleshooting suggests incompatibility with on-board USB3 so purchased recommended 4 port USB3.0 inateck PCI express card (Inateck KTU3FR-4P) - includes 15pin SATA connectors. Cost: £22.00 GBP

Re-installed software and went through set up until it's time to put on the headset then still nothing.
The headset has a solid orange light and no image.

UPGRADE 2: Whilst not conclusive, research indicates that the HDMI output from the GTX 570 may not be compatible with the Rift and I decide to upgrade to a GeForce GTX980 Ti. I opt for the VR edition as it comes with a bay with HDMI output and 2 USB 3 ports (unfortunately, my case isn't big enough to allow the cables to connect from the bay ports to the new card so I don't install the bay)  Cost:
£629.00 GBP

The result is immediate success.

Blue/White light on headset and image is displayed allowing calibration to continue successfully. and I'm good to go...

...almost.

There is a message displayed which says "your computer doesn't meet Rift's recommended specs..." but the only thing wrong now is the specs recommend a i5 CPU or higher and I have an i7 CPU so all should be good but I can't seem to get rid of the message.

SUMMARY

I am satisfied that the HDMI output on my GeForce GTX570 just wasn't compatible with the Rift but the GeForce GTX980Ti I now have is.

The Inateck PCI Express 4 port USB3 cars was a good purchase but may not have been required.

The DVI to HDMI converter was a non-essential purchase.

Hope this proves useful to someone.

M.

Fermi GPUs and below aren't supported at all. GK 107 or higher is required

This write up helped me figure out my situation... I was hoping I could at least try out my CV1 on my current GTX570 (accepting the jumpy graphics). I guess I should have paid closer attention to the min required spec. It simply doesn't work at all. Looks like I will be buying a new PC, like tomorrow. Thanks for taking the time to write up your experience.
