Cable link problem with Quest 2 and windows 11 laptop

Croc70

New to all this. Setting up my quest 2 using the PC app. The app does not recognise the Headset using the cable or air link. When connected by cable the headset appears under file explorer as a mass storage device so is connected. Any ideas?

Hey there @Croc70! We understand that you're having an issue with using Quest Link. We never want you to have any trouble playing in the world of VR. We are going to attach a link that will take you to the Using Quest Link with Meta Quest Headsets. Try using that article to set it up and get back to us if you have anymore issues! We are looking forward to your reply.

I have already tried everything on that link. I can see the headset under file explorer so it is connecting to the laptop but not in the app. Any more suggestions?

@Croc70 Hmmm- Since the headset is showing in File Explorer, there might be something wrong with the launch process. Just to confirm, which cable are you using when trying a hard-wired Link connection? Is it the cable that came with the headset? When trying to establish a hard-wired Link connection, be sure to Deny when the in-headset prompt asks if you want to Allow access to data transfer, as clicking Allow will only allow for file transfer and will not properly establish a Link connection within the Meta Quest Desktop app. Before trying a hard-wired Link connection, be sure to disable Air Link within your headset and desktop app settings, since this can also mess with the Link process.

Does the headset come up at all in the desktop app when using either Air Link or Link? If so, can you post a screenshot of the Quest 2 in your devices?

Ok, to run through your questions in order. I have tried two different cables, the one that came with the headset, and I have another nearly new. Both are usb c to usb c. Now we come to in headset prompts. I do not get ANY prompt to deny or allow. No prompt at all! Air link is disabled,

Maybe a software problem if I don’t get any prompt?

@Croc70 That definitely explains a lot! So, with the way our Link software works the USB-C cable needs to be a high-data transfer rate cable (USB 3.2 Gen 1 Signaling 5 Gbps USB 2 Backwards Compatible). For official Link support, we definitely recommend checking out our official Link cable here! We've seen cases where user were able to use other high-data transfer third-party cables, which you may be able to find recommendations for around the forums. For cross-shopping third-party cables, please use your due diligence, realize that they aren't officially supported, and cross-compare the specifications to our official link cable for a best practice. The cable that comes with the Quest 2 is specifically meant for charging, and not for PCVR use-case.

We're more than happy to help out with Air Link, to get you rocking in PCVR, though! For Air Link, we recommend checking out this page, which covers a bit more than our other Link page! Can you delve more into the specifics about what's wrong when trying to setup Air Link? Also, can you confirm if your setup follows/differentiates from our best practices from our Air Link page? If there are discrepancies, can you let us know more about them?

Hey again, @Croc70! Just checking back in to see if you still needed help with your Air Link performance. We'd love to continue helping out if you'd let us know about the requested info in our previous reply! We can also help out with Link, if you ended up getting our official Link cable!

Haven’t had a chance to try anything yet. Maybe today

Hi, I’m now getting a prompt that I haven’t seen before stating my graphics card isn’t compatible. Is this the reason for not being able to connect? I have retried the cable without success but can still see the drive in file explorer. I will try the air link later

Air link  isn’t finding the headset either. Again, I’m now getting an error message stating I have an incompatible graphics card. Is that the reason neither the cable or air link is working?

Still need help?
