Can't Add Payment Method Work Around (Quest, Rift S)

QVR-Dude
Protege
On my Quest, I reset to factory settings with these directions:

A. turned off headset
B. held the power and volume(-) button down simultaneously until boot
screen in headset appears
C. navigated to factory reset with the volume button
D. re downloaded the Oculus App. onto a different phone(Android) and
paired up the headset through that, going through each step

----the above instructions for a factory reset were submitted by Cybereality--

What I did that failed...

My headset was initially set up in my name but no credit/debit cards(also in my name) worked
-tried 9 different ones. Credit or debit- didn't seem to make any difference.
With this setup, I could add no payment methods except a PayPal account which failed as
soon as it got to the list of cards I put on that PayPal account.  Linking directly
to a bank did nothing either.  I was also setup with an account outside of
Face Book(Opting not to link my account to it)

What I did(changed) that worked...

1.  After I started over by factory resetting my headset with the steps above, I downloaded
the Oculus App on a phone owned by a friend and paired it up on his instead of mine.

2.  That same friend put the headset in his name, completely excluding me from the profile.  He
also choose to sign into oculus through his own Face Book, whereas I did not
want to identify my Oculus profile through Face Book.

3.  When I had to connect to wifi, I connected to his cable modem at his place.  Later I
reconnected to my WIFI at home after payment plans were added.

4.  When it asked me to add a payment plan,  I used a credit card that was IN MY NAME with
a credit line of 450.00 dollars and it received it without a problem... so the name and
account number on the credit/debit card was not the problem!!??

VERY IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND...

THE GLITCH IN THE OCULUS PAYMENT METHOD IS NOT THAT IT'S CORRECTLY BLACK LISTING
ACCOUNT NAMES, BANKS, AND NUMBERS FOR RELEVANT REASONS.

THE GLITCH SEEMS TO BE THAT A RED FLAG IS TRIGGERED IF FACEBOOK IS NOT PERMITTED TO
BE LINKED INTO THE USERS OCULUS PROFILE.  WHY WOULD A PREVIOUSLY
BLOCKED CARD SUDDENLY WORK?

I REALLY HOPE THIS HELPS!

If a person sets up an Oculus profile and has no current Face Book profile, I'm guessing the setup will work fine, allowing credit/debit cards to be added.

If a person opts to create an Oculus profile independent of Face Book but already has an established Face Book account, the Oculus software must be looking at the new Oculus profile as hacked because the person's info is at least partially identical to the person's info on the Face Book account with the same name- thinks an identity is being duplicated, maybe possibly.

This might be a possible solution for Rift S payment errors also, just focus on the Oculus/Face Book profile I.D.

Retry setting up a payment method on your Oculus account by choosing to sign into Oculus through Face Book.  Create a whole new Face Book account with a random name and simply choose to sign into your Quest/Rift S profile with it.
This should work.  If it means loosing already purchased games and apps well... 😞

I had the same problem with adding a payment method like many people have reported.  The above method from QVR-Dude is legit.  I factory reset the quest, downloaded the app on a different phone, setup a new oculus account with just a new email and added a payment method (one I tried in the first place) through the phone app BEFORE I powered up the headset and followed directions to setup the quest.  It updated for a few minutes (white screen may appear and seems to be part of the update) and when it was fully powered on it saw all the new info including the added payment option.

Mostly if your mobile device is linked or logged into facebook or any other facebook-associated app. You may have this issue. Tried this solution and it worked for me. Did things a bit differently.

Did not use a different mobile device for the app. Instead, force-stopped, uninstalled and cleared data from FB-related apps. Reinstalled the oculus app and then created a new oculus account with different profile and with no link to FB. Payment method worked on first attempt. Same payment method.

So based on that experience, I'd agree that there's some data juju going on in the back-end. They're either doing a whole lot of extra data-mining, given all the access permissions the app requires and you have to consent to.
