the full message I got was this

Can't Reach Oculus Runtime Service
Your Oculus Software May be Updating. Please Wait a Minute and try again. If the issue continues, contact Oculus support.

Has this happenned to any of you guys?? I cannot use my Oculus at all. That message always pops up. I tried to
Unplug everything and plug it back,
Tried to restart my PC,
See if there were any updates for the Oculus and
Use the Program Compatibility Troubleshooting (the test said there is incompatible program) Thing is I did not change a thing or download a new program recently.

Thank you guys, have a nice day!

hello guys, after long long troubleshooting I might have a temporary fix for you. I have to say oculus support is proving to be unable to provide sufficient support here. Can you please provide me with your graphics card model? is it a r9 390x running on windows 10 by any chance?

what happened is, oculus home updates itself without anything noticeable, and when this happened in early december it broke the compatibility with with all of the latest amd drivers newer than may 2016. This happened just for a few people, but completely prevents their oculus from being used on their machines. If you revert back to may 2016 drivers

non-whql-64bit-radeon-software-crimson-16.5.3-win10-win8.1-win7-may21.exe

it will start working again, just like magic. The problem is most applications like oculus medium and quill wont work with these old drivers. Oculus support is refusing to acknowledge this issue and trying to push people to reinstall windows to solve it, saying its a (quote here) 'relatively effortless procedure'. They are also refusing to provide the older version of oculus home that was working in early december just before this update brought ASW and broke everything for us. The temporary workaround that I found to use latest amd drivers in my case is:

1 wipe out amd drivers with the amd cleanup utility tool
2 reboot pc
3 install latest drivers, minimal setup, no amd softrware.
4 don't reboot when suggested, or your oculus won't work.
5 launch oculus home and enjoy it with the latest drivers, perfectly working, until you have to shut down the pc.

if the pc shuts down  the procedure is

A boot,
B verify that you get the error "cannot reach oculus runtime.."
C repeat steps from 1.

It's as inconvenient as it gets but it will give you back your oculus working immediately on the latest drivers. (just until reboot though, then rinse and repeat)

I hope enough people with this problem can get together to prove them that we absolutely need acknowledgement and fix on either side, be it oculus home or amd drivers.

Evening, i received my rift last friday, and seconds after start setup, got the "Can't Reach Oculus Runtime Service Your Oculus software may be updating. Please wait a minute and try again" issue, i have been great part of weekend looking for a solution, and checking all pc drivers are updated, as so was at 90%, anyway its not drivers problem, neither that i have 8 mb ram but system waste 0.6 and then i have really 7.4 available mb ram, anyway i have win7 sp1, a recently adquired nvidia gtx1060, and all the specs asked by oculus (but mancioned ram), i have seen tons of sites refering the same issue, from DK2 times, and can not understand how oculus has not fix it still, and just to keep with a service that its only function is to tell facebook we are conected, and waht are we doing.... support replied saturday (thoug i think it is an automatic response), till now, and my pacience is beginning to get empty with an expensive item i was waiting for a long time...

My specs:

Win 7 home premium SP1

Intel I7 4770

8 gb ram

gtx 1060 6gb

I have not try what shake recommends cause i play intel, not ati, waiting if it worked for someone before get another deception/anger, glad to see there is someones worrying about this, sorry about my english and regards
