I typo'd and put the wrong birthdate for my son's account and now he is a "child" account. I need to change it to be correctly as teen, but the site will not let me change it. Also, when I try to contact support (as it gives me a link to) it errors and goes to "page not found". When contacting support they say there is absolutely nothing they can do (?!)
All I want is to correct the birthdate -- reset the date, so I can change it or something!
If I can't do this, I want to turn off parental supervision, but I can't do that either! I am highly frustrated. please help

Hey there, @JanStad! Thank you for reaching out to us about this! We do want all users old enough to use or devices to enjoy them to the fullest. We do notice that you've also PMed us, so we're more than happy to continue the conversation there. For everyone else in this thread, we'd like to provide some clarity. We understand these devices are investments used for many purposes. The safety of our users is always a priority on our platform, this is especially true for children, which is why we have special rules for them. If you've created an account for a child which also required you to have a guardian account so they are parent managed, these accounts will remain child accounts until they reach the age of 13 (based on the date of birth set on the account) at that point, the 13 year old will be asked to agree to the Meta Terms of service and will have access to all features a normal account would. Further restrictions are determined by the parent and they would be able to choose to remove parental controls at this time.
Customer Support doesn't have the option make changes to the account date of birth to turn the account into a regular account. The account would need to age up naturally. If there's any additional questions or challenges, please feel free to send us a private message. We're here to help! Click on our profile, then click "Send a Message" to privately message us!

So if a birthdate is entered incorrectly, there is no way to fix it?
07-03-2024 10:30 AM
Thank you for the follow up. That is correct, if the account is set up as a child account, it will need to naturally age up to become a regular account. This is put in place to make sure children are not mistakenly exposed to things they may not be ready for. Please let us know if you have any more questions!

I understand and appreciate the concern but people just create new accounts anyway with the updated birthdate so you're not really preventing anything by doing that. If anything, Meta is just making the user experience more difficult than it needs to be.

Hi Support. Same issue here. Child created an account and bypassed your so called “child safety measures” by entering her birthday 10 years earlier than reality (so it thinks shes a 20 year old adult). Now I am trying to change that birthday to her correct year so I can use a parent account to mange access. When trying to update her birth year - we get the same failure and indication to contact support. Which judging by this forum, is not bringing forth a resolution. Nothing happening here is a result of Meta’s concern for child safety. In fact it feels quite the opposite.

I've been having the same issue. If you try to change the DOB on your child's account to 13 years of age or older, it will not do it. HOWEVER, if you change the DOB to be as if your child will turn 13 tomorrow, it WILL allow the change.
Of course, this will not result in the child's actual birthday being on the account, but the next day the account should be less restricted.
I just made these changes today on my child's account, so tomorrow we will see how it goes.
