Can't skip pairing with controllers after factory reset on Quest 3 PTC v64

Koala2277

After a factory reset there is no option to fully skip pairing with controllers on Meta Quest 3.

On v64.0.0.347 after a few minutes of waiting there a button appears Pair controllers, then Skip for the first controller and Continiue for the second one, after that there is just an Exit button which simply repeats this process in a loop preventing you from reaching the screen to connect to Wi-Fi.

Hey there, @Koala2277! We are always looking for feedback on upcoming updates through our PTC Program! Since it's still a testing channel, we have the option available for users to choose to leave the test.

Doing this will restore your headset software state to its original state from before you signed up for the PTC program. If you need help leaving the program, our link: here will help out.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to let us know!

I can't leave PTC channel because I'm stuck on the controller pairing screen.

Add an option so that the stage of pairing with controllers could be skipped if you wait a little, at the moment it’s just a closed loop from which you can’t get out.

I can update it via adb sideload with a new firmware, so far I'm on a new 64.0.0.414 and I still can't skip pairing screen.

Hey, @Koala2277! I came across this post and saw that you can't skip the pairing screen on your headset. I went ahead and flagged this with our engineers so this could be looked into further. I'll let you know if they have any updates that they can provide for us!

Thanks a lot @The_1st_Dark_Lord_Morgoth!

I understand that controllers are required to work with Quest 3, but most tasks can be performed without them, this especially applies to working with a browser and viewing content on YouTube. I reset my Quest 3 to factory settings but I don't have any controllers nearby because I'm away from home and I was shocked that I couldn't do the initial setup without controllers. After some time if you wait buttons will appear but they do not change anything and this process continues endlessly in a loop, after that there is just an exit button and it takes you back to the controller pairing screen, there is no way to continue and connect the Quest 3 to Wi-Fi.

There must be a function to skip pairing with controllers because the Quest 3 is absolutely usable without them! I hope engineers will be able to tweak a FirstTimeNuxEureka application which is responsible for the initial setup.

Hi there, @Koala2277. Having your controllers in working order is an essential part of the VR experience. Hand tracking is definitely a great way to utilize your controllers after setup. With that being said, both controllers are required for you to initial setup your Quest 3 and anytime you perform a factory reset. There is no workaround or way to skip that part of the setup. You should be able to pair your controllers when you are near them. We hope this has provided some insight for you, and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us again.

Why can't the team make the change to allow controllers to be skipped? This is literally one line of code in the js script in FirstTimeNuxEureka app

Hello again, Koala2277. We certainly understand where you're coming from, and we appreciate your feedback. We will certainly take that into consideration. You can also share this on our ideas forum page, which can be found here. While we can't guarantee anything, plenty of ideas that gained traction with the community in our Ideas Forums were implemented into future updates to help improve the user experience of our community as a whole. We'd recommend starting a thread over there that the rest of you can comment on to see how much traction it can get. Our engineers definitely take note of the popular ideas, suggestions, and feedback that's posted there. For the time being, though, you will still need both controllers to set up the headset. You can find out more info on setting up your headset by following the link we've shared here. Please let us know if you have any further questions for us, and have a great day!

> Quest 3 is usable without controllers and people use it like this a lot.
> After factory reset it locks itself in a controller pairing screen and can’t proceed without connecting controllers.

Is this really has to be in Ideas forum to realize that something is wrong here?

Don’t get me wrong, the initial setup process is properly designed. It’s not encouraging user to abandon controllers and immediately ask to remove pull tabs to activate them, however, after a while if controllers are not detected it goes into manual pairing mode and asks to press certain buttons and if no response is given then a Skip button appears. Why this button exists if it’s not skipping anything? It’s an infinite loop of pressing Skip-Continue-Exit. Doesn’t it looks like a bug? Why it’s not allowing to continue connecting Quest 3 to a Wi-fi?

Hey there! I wanted to check in to see if you were still having this issue. I heard back from our engineers recently, and they told me if you're still stuck on the controller pairing screen, to take the headset off for at least 5 minutes while it's showing the screen. Then put the headset back on after that time. This should allow you to pair the headset without the controllers.

If that doesn't work, see if you're able to perform a factory reset instead. This should allow you to get out of the pairing screen and then be able to complete the headset setup. Let me know if this helps!

Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Through passion, I gain strength. I gain power. Through power, I gain victory. Through victory, my chains are broken. The force shall free me.
