Can't use any USB devices with Quest 3

TheMightyDonger
Explorer

When connecting any device to my Quest 3 via the type-c port (eg mouse, keyboard, ethernet adapter, link cable), none of them get detected by the headset. In the case of the link cable I'm still able to slowly charge the headset, but it doesn't pop-up with any notification to enable USB access or anything like that. The last time I used a USB keyboard with my Quest it was only a few days ago, and I was using my link cable for PCVR just yesterday fine.

Things I've tried:

-Restarting the Quest 3
-Enabling developer mode
-Tried different mice, keyboards, usb-c to usb-a dongles, a usb to ethernet adapter, a link cable, all with no success.
-Plugged in a usb hard drive (I can see the headset powers the drive, but the storage isn't detected inside the headset)
-Cleaned the usb-c port with a toothbrush
-Did a factory reset of the Quest 3
-Updated to v71

Hey there !

We realize the importance of connectivity and ease of use through accessories and we also understand how frustrating it can be if you're unable to connect through USB C cable. As much as we appreciate the fact that you have attempted the necessary troubleshooting steps, we'd like to ask if there are any issues you're facing while charging your device in general?

Hi Support, thanks for quick response - I'm having no problems charging the device 🙂

Thanks for letting us know the same!

If there are no issues with charging the device, this means that the USB port of your device completely fine.

We'd like to let you know that we here at Meta do not outrightly encourage the usage of wired used of accessories such as keyboards and mouse as our approach with the Quest 3 emphasizes a seamless, untethered experience, making wireless accessories especially VR-specific ones. USB-C is primarily for charging, data transfer, or connecting to a PC via Link for more demanding VR content.

Therefore, we suggest you to use wireless-Bluetooth enabled accessories for a seamless experience!

Hi Support, that's the problem though, my usb port doesn't seem to be able to transfer any data, as I'm unable to use my link cable or any other wired peripheral. I understand that you might not offically support using a wired keyboard / mouse, but it should work, along with connecting with a link cable for PCVR 😞

@TheMightyDonger  firstly, awesome username. 👍

Is the device detected in the PC device manager, if not, it sounds like there may be an issue with one of the +/- data lines in the connector or a dry solder joint of the headset connector to the board. Hopefully the headset is still in warranty.

@oculusnessthanks lol!
The Quest doesn't get detected anywhere 😞
It's super strange, as it was working just fine the day before.
I'm wondering if it's worth trying to take a cotton swab with some rubbing alcohol to the charging port?

@TheMightyDonger  if you have access to a magnifier or microscope, it might be worth having a look at the headset connector pins/fingers for any damage/corrosion or arcing. Electrical contact cleaner may be slightly better than rubbing alcohol. Go gently at first as you don't want the alcohol to have a detrimental effect on the connector plastic.
