Is there a way to scan and a qr code that is on my PC or phone, and view the image on my oculus?

Hey there @bethany.c13.yahoo.com.2024! Great question, at this time we only allow for QR scanning during the WiFi setup process on our Quest 3 devices. Although passthrough does access the cameras to view your surrounding area any visuals picked up during game time stay in game time. Should you have any other questions about this, feel free to let us know!

Hi @MetaQuestSupport ,
I found this conversation researching the use of commodity AR technology for our commercial laboratory software.
There are other older posts explaining why its a bad idea to allow dev access to passthrough cameras - however this is the latest response around the topic of reading QR codes. The ability to do this and optionally open browser pages per iPhone and Android would be a game changer in locations such as clean rooms and fume hoods where keyboards and PC's are a real encumbrance.
Could you confirm that the Quest3 truly has the capability to read QR Codes using its passthrough cameras.
Clearly the follow up question is - could this capability be exposed to developers in the OS - or even in the general UI per the iphone and android camera mode of use. It could at a stroke remove screens and keyboards from many environments where they are unsuitable or an expensive incumbrance.
Clearly there are safety concerns using something like an Quest3 in such an environment - however such a modification would pave the way for widespread experimentation in advance of more appropriate form factors.
Thanks in advance for your help,
David

Hey there @milomi! We love your enthusiasm for the potential capabilities of the Meta Quest 3! Currently, the Quest 3 can only scan Wi-Fi QR codes from the Meta Quest mobile app during initial setup. Attempts to scan other QR codes will not work at this time. While this could change in future updates, we don't have any information on the future of QR capability for the Quest 3! We'd love for you to check out our Ideas forum to make your voice heard!

So the device can, Meta can but meta block it for users?
The eternal question: who owns the device..? Meta or the buyer?
(FYI, Nokia started the trend of locking devices back then, don't be Nokia.)
