I download Oculus setup from their website, run it, agree to terms, and as it is verifying system setup I get the problem as the title says and the install doesn't happen. Have 65bg free space, tried the bypasshotfix with no luck, tried run as admin, updated all drivers, tried installing to a dirve with 600 gigs free. Really at a loss of ideas now. Supposed to be on a "vr ready" alienware R15.
specs are; 7th Generation Intel Core i7-7700HQ Windows 10 Home 64-bit English 16GB DDR4 at 2400MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5 Overclocked
I didnt try google dns but when i switched to my phone's hotspot signal I was able to get the download going. Not sure if it'll work in every case but i was able to switch back to my home network ( that was causing the problem originally) and finish off the download at normal download speed.
This didnt work for me but may help others if they're going down the checklist of possible fixes. Oculus support had me flush dns cache with this command then retry the install, hopefully it can help someone out!
Open the Run Command
Windows + R key
Type in: ipconfig /flushdns
Hit Enter
