Cant install oculus software

So I am reasonably computer literate (not as good as some here) but I can solve most issues with a little googling. I have never encountered anything as frustrating as this though.

It started when I bought elite dangerous but when I signed into the frontier account it didn't recognize that I had purchased the game.  Oculus support wasn't helpful so I decided to start over with a fresh install. I uninstalled elite dangerous and when I tried to reinstall I got an error.  Nothing specific just the same "sorry an error was encountered contact support" I tried all the normal things virus software, firewalls off, restarts, change game folder directory, i ran the oculus repair tool, delete old elite dangerous folders.  Again oculus support just sent back a form letter and was not helpful.

So finally I said im just going to start from scratch. I uninstalled the oculus software and when i tried to reinstall I got another error something like "sorry the instillation has failed please contact oculus support". I have tried in safe mode, running a chkdsk, installing on another drive, again defender off etc.

Attached is the installation log file. I am not good at reading these but I do see a line at the bottom that says "[Warning] [12/6/2020 4:08:29 PM] Download attempt 10 failed!"

I'm really at a loss I've never had a problem that just kept getting worse like this. Not even one step forward just two steps back.

Hi there!

I'm really sorry to hear you've had this issue. The purchase/redeem issue is typically something to do with either account linking, or the game not recognizing the fact that you own the game, and usually we can easily fix this. But, the fact you're now having other issues is not helpful!

For now, please try a clean uninstall!
  • First uninstall the launcher from your computer using 'Programs and Features' (or Occulus' built-in uninstaller).
  • Remove (delete) any left over files from where the launcher was installed. (Please be aware that this will mean you may have to download all game files again)
  • Find your game folder, you can find this hereDelete it
  • If "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments" exists - Delete it
  • If "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments" exists - Rename this folder to back up your user settings
If that doesn't help, or gets you back to the "Please purchase/redeem" error, let us know and we will keep at it. 🙂
