Good day to everyone!
I am a proud owner of a Quest 3 since three days ago. It's really amazing, but there's something that's bothering me. My girlfriend cannot do VR as she has some extreme motion sickness. We knew this beforehand, so it wasn't a surprise. However, she would like to watch me play VR games using my PC screen to do it. I already found out how to cast what i see in VR to my PC screen using https://www.oculus.com/casting , but the sound is still coming from the headset rather than the PC speakers. That's fine for me (the sound output from the Quest 3 is great), but she doesn't get a very good sound experience this way.
I have a great sound system hooked up to the PC, so I would like to use that as the output most of the time. Sadly, it's not Bluetooth capable, just wired to the PC. Searching the web, I already found many guides on how to cast to a TV (don't even have one) or how to output PC sounds through the headset, but not the other way around.
Can someone give me some directions as to how I can achieve sound output solely through the device I'm already casting my visuals to? Thanks a lot in advance from the both of us, everyone!

I found a solution that works for now: In the Steam VR settings, I can select a different audio device for sound output and can use that option to select my PC speakers. As I intend to play mostly SteamVR games, that works great for now, there's even no discernible delay so I can even play Beat Saber like this. I guess it might become a problem at some point when I want to play non-SteamVR titles, but for now, this is enough for me. If that situation comes up and I still don't have any other solution, I will post in these forums again. Thanks so much for the support!

Hello there, @Estelyen! We understand you have run into a challenge, getting no sound when casting to the PC. We certainly want everyone to be able to enjoy the experience, and we will work on this together. To help us narrow this down further, are you casting through your phone to a third device? (IE to your phone, then to the PC) or trying to cast directly to the device via a tool like Chromecast? While not directly stated in our casting and troubleshooting articles, the set up only involves two devices. We would want to cast directly to the PC and give these steps to ensure it is set up properly. Thanks for your time, and please let us know if it should continue.
Have a great day!

I have the Meta Quest app installed on my phone, but I don't think it's involved in the casting. And while I've heard of Chromecast, I never used it before, so I don't know if it might be involved or not. These are the steps I'm doing to start casting to my PC:
Please remember, all of this is still very new to me; it's the first VR headset I own. I did a lot of setting up over the first days and I'm afraid I didn't take notes of the steps I did to get where I am now. The visuals are already working fine for the Cast, all that's missing now is the sound. Thank you very much for your help.

We're certainly glad to help! You mentioned that, while the headset itself is able to produce audio while casting, there appears to be none coming from the PC. We'd like for you to check your PC's active audio devices, while casting is active, and see if one of those settings may be adjusted to allow sound to come from your PC. You may even want to check your Chrome browser's settings too!
Additionally, we also suggest casting an app from your headset's app library, and not through SteamVR or Virtual Desktop, to see if those might be contributing. We look forward to your response!

Thank you for the suggestions. The sound devices themselves are working fine, so I played around with many settings concerning audio, both the newer Windows 11 "System->Sound" menu as well as the older Control Panel "Sound" window that opens when you click on "Advanced->More sound settings" in the Win11 menu. I activated and deactivated all listed devices, made sure they were unmuted and tried pretty much any other option offered to me. All this time, I was casting my headset's "First Encounters" app to the PC and had the casting tab open in the browser. No sound.
I noticed that normally, a Chrome browser tab that is generating sound (such as watching a youtube video in it) has a small speaker icon next to the tab's close button. The one with the Oculus casting in it does not. I checked my Chrome settings, but couldn't find anything in the general options relating to audio and the tab itself is not muted either. So my guess is, that the sound never even arrives at the browser in the first place, or the speaker icon would appear in the tab, right?
