Casting from Meta Quest 2 no devices listed

Hello,

I have got a Meta Quest 2 I would like to broadcast from to a TV directly without using any app or a computer.

But from the list of the following setups I've tried nothing worked.

Worth to mention stepsI do:

  • Making sure the headset and the target TV are in the same W-Fi network
  • Running camera app > select cast > *there should be a list of devices to broadcast on* > I can only see 2 options: Cast on Mobile or Computer which are not suitable for me.

Setup I've used on connected to various Wi-Fi including tethering from iPhone 8

  • Meta Quest 2 trying to cast on Microsoft Surface Hub
  • Meta Quest 2 trying to cast on Microsoft Wireless Adapter(1st gen)

Headset has been recently factory reset.

Must mention that Amazon Firestick or Chromecast should not be considered for this particular case.

Thanks you in advance and hope you can suggest!

HI @MetaQuestSupport !
Thank you for your persistence in helping solving this. I Believe the topic to be closed as we need to have a solution broadcasting directly to the TV with no computing devices in between.

Just to let you know broadcasting to a phone was working the other day, so no issues here; also broadcasting in web browser also worked, so no issues here either.

Please feel free to close the topic.

Much appreciate your support!

Hello, dyson.institute! We know how much fun it is to share these VR experiences with family and friends, so we would love to answer the questions you are having and provide some clarifications on this topic. We want to start by thanking you for providing us with some of the troubleshooting steps you have already tried. As of now, Meta does not have a way to cast directly on TV. Casting works best when using a phone or computer, but we will love to give you a list of requirements that need to be met for casting. Please read below.

Before casting, here are some requirements that need to be met.

  • Both the headset and the receiving device need to be connected to the same local area network (generally, this just means connected through the same router, though it may be more complex on public or enterprise systems).
  • The best practice is to have the headset connected through 5 GHz, though 2.4 GHz may still work at limited quality.
  • When casting to a computer or mobile app, both the headset and the device displaying the cast must be logged into the same account.
       - This limits secondary accounts from casting to the mobile app, as a secondary account cannot be connected to an app.

Please note: Casting directly to a Chromecast device or TV is not fully supported by Meta and may not work with some Chromecast devices or TVs. Meta does not have a list of which devices or TVs will or will not work.

If casting to a computer and/or phone works but casting directly to a Chromecast device or TV does not, the problem is likely device compatibility.

If you come across any other questions, please feel free to reach out to us again, and we will be happy to help!

Hi @MetaQuestSupport !

Much appreciate your detailed answer. Its a shame the device cant broadcast to a TV directly, as I have seen articles with screenshots other users been able to see their TV's and other devices you can broadcast on in Meta Quest Cast App list.

I shall check the device with Apple TV93rd gen) we have onsite and revert back to you.

Thank you for your support!

You're very welcome, @dyson.institute! We'll be waiting for your feedback!

Hi @MetaQuestSupport , I did tested this with Apple TV gen 3, but still wasn't able to see it in the list...

Any further advise is much appreciated!

Thanks for your feedback @dyson.institute! Are the Apple TV, the headset and your phone all on the same Wi-Fi network as well as the same frequency (2.4 or 5Ghz)?

The phone wasnt involved in the process, but the headset and the TV yes were in the same SSID.

For casting, we would want to test it with a phone or PC to verify it is working. As mentioned prior, casting directly to a TV is not fully supported by Meta and may not work with some TVs. Checking with a phone or PC can help troubleshoot if the TV is not compatible. Thanks for your time, and have a great day.
