Casting to browser: Missing Options & Distorted Audio

Ecleos
Honored Guest
Yesterday, streaming to the Google Chrome web browser is blocked in widescreen mode, with no possibility of switching to 4:3 mode as before today. What's more, the audio quality is suddenly very poor.

I reset my quest 3 and all options were present and back. No more sound problems. I turned off the headset which told me that it would perform an update before extienction and now, I have again the same result (no more choice between 4:3 and 16:9, no more microphone option and a very bad sound quality). This bug is only present on cast to browser, I don't have any problem on chromecast (sound offset but this bug has been present for years now and known on the meta side).

For an overview of the sound quality, see the video of itsthedon, which also has the same bug:

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Could you remedy it, and if so, how?

Hey everyone! After discussing a bit more with engineering, it looks like they weren't able to replicate the microphone volume issue. They determined that the issue more than likely stems from the following factors:

  • The headset not being properly adjusted and donned on the user's head.
  • An accessory interfering physically with the microphone.
  • The user is not talking loud enough, and should try talking louder.

If you've confirmed that the headset is fully donned, nothing is interfering with the microphone, and that you're talking at a reasonable volume for the microphone, I highly recommend reaching out to @MetaQuestSupport in a private message to look into further options!

Technology, at a certain level of sophistication, is indistinguishable from magic. - some wise guy or something probably

When I use cast to computer the visual looks fine but for some reason the audio is heavily distorted to the point that it's unbearable. If I cast using airlink everything sounds fine but when using the camera app to cast to computer the microphone and game audio sounds horrible.

The main reason I don't just stick to airlink is because the game i prefer playing is only available to me when I'm not connected to airlink

I have tried rebooting the headset and computer as well as updating on two separate days but the issue is still ongoing.

Hey there, @JJNext1! We want you to be able to cast seamlessly! To ensure you can do so, we recommend following the steps for casting to a computer from our link: here

Please let us know if that helps out or if more assistance is needed. We look forward to hearing back from you!

Yes I am still having the issues. The steps I was provided with earlier only explained how to start casting but didn't go anywhere past that

Hey @JJNext1! Thanks for reaching back out! Are both your computer and your headset connected to a 5Ghz band Wi-Fi network? If you're both connected to a 2.4Ghz network, you could get some audio issues like you are experiencing. We'd also suggest attempting to cast to your phone through the Meta Quest app instead to see if you still have the same audio issue. We'll be waiting to hear your feedback!

I'm having an identical issue - was all working perfectly , then ofr no reason stating on Saturday the mic/setting option is removed from casting when on Pc and the audio is dreadful. I am connected on both devices to 5ghz, have reset router/updated firmware and also tried on a diff network and with a MacBook rather than windows laptop and still issue persists. I've been reading around as to what this might be and came across this thread and another thread below?

Device works oK casting to iphone but thats a waste of time as we cant get audio out of the TV plus there is a delay Please can someone fix this 😑 - do we know if its software related or hardware issue?

Hey there, @Chickennuggetbutterfly23! We want to help you out with the casting issues you're experiencing! We'd have to dig a bit deeper to determine the exact cause of what you're experiencing, as there are a variety of factors to be considered.

Please answer the following question for us:

  • Which version were you able to update your VR headset to?

Also, try the following:

  • Restart your headset, phone, and casting device.
  • Before you begin casting, make sure your headset and the device that you’re casting to are on the same Wi-Fi network.

Please let us know if the tips above helped at all. We look forward to hearing back from you!
