Charging Quest 3 during use? USB-C splitter??

I most often use the Quest 3 with my PC, connected via a link cable, for flight simulator mostly (I use my old Quest 2 for everything else). The link cable has a dual data/charging lead. I bought a BoboVR M3 strap too, but cannot use the battery pack and the link cable at the same time (pity about that!). Air Link gives me appalling stuttering and artefacts in the sim, so I have to use the cable.

How do I know though, when I am using the Quest headset, that it is charging properly? The orange light on the headset showing this only illuminates when the headset is off; as soon as I turn it on, the LED light goes out (why is made like that?). I assume it is charging via the link cable, but I can see no way of checking the exact battery level.

After an hour or so of use, the battery level (I see when I have turned off VR mode on the PC and can check), has gone from 100% to around 50%. Not brilliant, if the Quest is indeed charging up.

@martinlest  you can use link cable and charge from a headstrap battery at the same time with one of these adaptors. Cheaper versions of USB-C adaptors with data passthrough are available.

You could also charge it from the meta power brick and use a link cable at the same time with this adaptor, so you know you're getting an uninterrupted power to the headset.

😁  I came back here just now to edit my post and ask whether a splitter would work - and see you got in before me!

Will check out the link (no pun  intended)... I guess something similar will be available in the UK (that specific device doesn't support Quest 3, apparently).

Any recommendations? I can't see one that I would be confident of supporting video signal transmission  (only charging and copying files).

My original question re. how to see battery level still valid BTW 😉

Thanks.

These splitters are also available in the  UK and although it doesn't specify Q3 support, it will work. There are other cheaper types depending on your need and aesthetics.  Just ensure the cable/adaptor is capable of taking the wattage/current of the meta charger.

Thanks - I did read reviews and comments from people who have bought these (Amazon UK), and they specifically say they don't work with Quest 3. For example (just a couple):

I bought this for my Quest 3 but it can't handle the data throughput required, or the power to charge it up while in use...
Be careful, it shows in pictures that it works on quest 3 and this is not true

Do you have one then, working with Quest 3?

I did see the 'MOGOOD' splitter you last mentioned in my browsing on Amazon.. I need to check specs as you say, but the 'blurb' says it does not support video signal transmission - just data copy (i.e. copy and paste files) and charging. At least that's how I interpret it.

Thanks.

yes, i just saw those reviews, I had one with my Q2 and it worked fine. I don't understand why it doesn't work with Q3. There must be something on the market that works with the Q3.  One of the amazon reviews stated that it was working but a headset update stopped it being compatible. Nice one meta!

I saw that too! 😅 I've added the 'splitter' idea to the thread title and will 'watch this space'. I didn't find anything else on Amazon 😐

The kkcob one doesn't work as the Quest 3 needs more power to charge. If using the supplied brick with the second splitter you linked it "should" work providing that the power specs the splitter provide are correct.

I found this thread as I'm looking for the same thing, I want to use a cable from my PC as well as use my headbands rechargeable battery at the same time. The kkcob one you linked would be perfect (I'm using the kkcob battery headband) if it actually supported the power requirements of the Quest 3.
