Clouding and fly screen quest 3

  • Hello, I now also have a Quest 3 and suspect that the lenses are already defective. When the image is bright you can see small spots and the fly screen effect is clearly visible when the text is further away. I was able to compare the image with my Quest 2 and I don't see any clouding or fly screens in the image. I think that's why the glasses are defective, or what do you think?

Hey @shrimpdevil! The new pancake lenses on the Quest 3 is probably one of the bigger upgrades to the Quest 2 predecessor, so we'd love to help out if you're experiencing display quality issues! The screen door effect you're describing could be a normal experience that some users may or may not experience depending on their sensitivity to noticing it during gameplay. Since screen dooring is more so about the spaces between pixels rather than the pixels themselves, we chose to mount the lenses at an angle. That way, our users get a wider FOV, and the pixel gaps don't line up with the eyes. This hopefully reduces screen dooring for some users. Though, it's possible that the clarity of the new lenses makes this more noticeable than the Quest 2.

We'd love to look into it more if you could provide the following:

  • A video of the small spots in bright lighting
  • A video of the screen door effect occurring
  • What troubleshooting have you already attempted on the headset?
  • Does this happen natively, during PCVR, or during both?
  • Does this happen immediately after starting the headset, or after some time using it?

If we could get that, then we can look into if what you're experiencing is a defective set of lenses or not. Hope this explanation helps!
