Vulprsvox
Explorer

The Question Why?

Win 10 Pro, 9900k CPU, GPU 3080, 64GB RAM, 1200w PSU, All Drivers and OS are up to date system is fully water cooled, temps at 100% load on both the CPU and GPU peek temps 70CPU/74GPU after an hour of testing.

Reproduction Steps

1. Start Quest3.

2. Start Steam.

3. Wait a few Seconds.

4. Computer system shuts down.

5. Turn Computer back on and come here to see what is going on.

I need a fix not a workaround or a patch job for $500 this should be plug and play Meta.

Does it also happen using the Meta Quest Software without Steam?

Let me try something in the Meta Quest Software, I will let you know

Not sure what is going on but as soon as I link to my system with AirLink or Link Cable my computer shuts down shortly after that. Could be instant or it will be 5 min so I am thing the issue has something to do with this.

Hello @Vulprsvox! Thank you so much for your response. We understand you're having trouble using PCVR with your Quest. We know you're eager to jump back into VR, so we're here to help! You mentioned that as soon as the headset is turned on with Airlink or link cable that your pc shuts down shortly after, we wanted to confirm if this happens only when attempting Steam VR or does it also happen when attempting to PC link with Quest natively?

We appreciate you taking the time to get this information over to us, in the meantime please let us know if there is anything we can do for you. Looking forward to your response!

So the symptoms have worsened, as soon as I activate the Airlink or link cable and get in the the white grid room it will shut down my computer with in 5 minuets. There is no clear reporting in the Event viewer to indicate what could be causing the shut down. So now it is not just Steam VR having issues. Using it in stand alone seems to work fine just no Steam game access.

Thank you for providing that information!  As Steam VR is not officially supported, there is a limit in the troubleshooting options available, but we do have a few steps that we'd like for you to try:

  1. Ensure the Link PC VR app is setup to Allow Content from unknown sources
  2. Restart your PC, close Steam if it opens automatically
  3. Launch the Link PC VR app
  4. Connect your headset to the PC VR app (Link or Air Link if on a Quest 2)
  5. Wait 3-5 minutes or until you are in your PC VR Home and see your library
  6. Launch Steam, then Steam VR

Steam should automatically detect the headset and open the steam home environment. Once you've been able to give these steps a try, please reply to let us know if they worked for you!
