Controller Drift in Both Controllers

Level 2

I have had controller drift for a while now and I thought nothing of it until just recently it started getting unbearable, I continuously spin around and cannot hit any of my shots in multiple of my games, I tried to update the drivers by removing the batteries for 10 minutes then putting new ones in but it hasn't worked, please help.

Support will recommend you to adjust the deadzones but that's only masking the issue, not fixing it. If the controllers are under warranty, have them replaced. If not, google Quest Drift to find varying options for cleaning or replacing the joystick modules.

If I got my headset at best buy would they replace them, I got a 3-year warranty

Hey JR_JMR! We understand that you are looking into your warranty options. No worries, we can definitely point you in the right direction. We do offer warranty options regardless of who you received your device from. Since you did receive a 3 year warranty through Best Buy you could try them first, as our warranty options differ from theirs. If you have still have issues you can reach back out to us via support ticket where you will be connected to one of our support specialist who can go over all your options.

So I spoke to best buy about the situation, and they said that the only available option was to trade in the whole headset as they do not sell individual controllers, but I would need the headset with me to trade it in. Now I don't know how that would work because I need my current headset to transfer the data to the new one, so please reach out to me to see if it would be possible to do a data transfer without having my current headset

Hey there @JR_JMR! We understand that you are experiencing joystick drift related issues with both of your controllers. We definitely understand how troublesome that can be and we'd love to get this issue resolved for you as quickly as possible! There are a few things we would like to try to see if the issue can be resolved without having to explore warranty options.

Please perform the following:

  • Remove the batteries for at least 30 seconds before attempting to use them again.
  • On Standalone Headsets: Increase the dead zones of the controller until the drift is no longer an issue/noticeable.
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Go to Hands and Controllers Settings
    3. Select Controllers in the left menu
    4. Next to Thumbstick range and dead zone, select the joystick which is having issue
    5. Follow on-screen instructions to recalibrate the joysticks deadzones
  • When powering on your controllers, ensure that the Analog sticks aren't being held in any direction and are at rest in the neutral position.

Please let us know if any of those troubleshooting steps resolved your issue. We will be standing by just in case further assistance is needed!

I have attempted all of those solutions and if anything it made it a bit worse

Hey @JR_JMR! Oh no! We hate to hear that any of our users would be experiencing something like this and definitely want to get this addressed right away. Please reach out to our Support Team by clicking here so that we may further assist you!

I have my receipt from the store and tried to look up the serial number for my controllers yet it said that my warranty expired when it still has another year before its expiration, I got my Oculus Quest 2 in July of 2021 and got a 2-year warranty as well but when I typed in the serial number it said that the warranty expired this year

Thanks for letting us know you're having troubles with getting your replacement controllers. This isn't the type of experience we want you to have, so let's get this sorted out for you! You can reach out to our support team here. Follow these steps:

  1. Select Meta Quest 2
  2. Left controller
  3. Thumbstick
  4. Thumbstick unresponsive (NG)
  5. This does not solve my issue
  6. You can then choose how you would like to contact us.

We hope this helps!
