Controller in Apps

I just got my Quest 2 and the controllers work fine until I get into an app and all the sudden I can’t select anything. The apps register the movement of the controller, but nothing happens when I try and select a game or feature.  Help!

Hello @maybemeghan17, that does not sound good at all! Proper controller usage is really important for VR immersion, and if you are unable to use your controllers, then we would love to review and see what we can do to help.

First things first, are you experiencing this with all applications, or just one? Some apps will require specific buttons to be pressed  to continue, such as holding a button/trigger instead of just pressing one, be sure you read any on screen text for specific instructions!

Next, we would like to recommend some basic controller troubleshooting:

  • Remove the battery from the controller for at least 5+ minutes before pitting it back in
  • Clean the controller to ensure none of the buttons are stuck
  • Make sure no third party accessories or attachments are interfering
  • If you are playing PC VR with Link, try a standalone app
  • While typically for Drift, you might try and recalibrate your controller

I am having the same problem.  Plus, the controllers will not recalibrate.  They work inside of some apps, but not others.

  • How long have you been experiencing this issue?  I typically only use VZ Ring Racer / VZ Fit, which works fine with both controllers or hands only.  Last week I tried several games, including Totally Baseball, First Peson Tennis, All-in-One Sports VR.  The controllers do not work in any of those apps.  They continue to work in VZ and YouTube VR, and outside the apps in the main screen.
  • Are you experiencing this issue with both controllers? If not, which controller?  Both controllers.
  • What apps are the controllers not working in?  See above.
  • Have you tried changing the batteries?  Yes!  After letting the controllers sit for half an hour.  Both controllers have fully charged batteries.
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried?  Restarting the Oculus 2, removing controller batteries. I also tried to use hand controls in the above apps, but they don't seem to support hands only.
