Controller randomly disconnects when using the meta wireless charging batteries

I’ve had the meta quest 3 charging dock for some time now. This issue has occurred from the start but I’m only now getting to doing something about it. When using the batteries provided with the charging dock, the controllers will lose connection randomly during gaming sessions. When I use standard batteries (not the ones that came with the dock) the controllers work perfectly fine never missing a beat.  Can someone help here? Obviously it defeats the purpose of having the charging dock if I can’t use the wireless charging batteries that come with it.

Hi @TheTonks! We see you're having some issues charging your Quest 3 controllers on the charging dock so we'd like to help you with this problem.

The batteries might not be charging correctly. There a few steps that we would like you to try:

  • Check the power adapter and headset connections. Make sure they are matched with the icons on the bottom of the dock.
  • The dock supports power adapters higher than 18W, but it is recommended to use the 18W adaptor that came with the headset.
  • Check the LED for error indicators. If the dock failed to update, disconnect all cables and reconnect power adapter and headset. Wait for a few minutes to complete the update.

We would also recommend to swap the batteries as this has worked for some of our users before.

Please let us know if that worked for you, in the meantime if you have any other questions or concerns then let us know!

Hi,

The issue is not that they don’t charge. They charge just fine. The charging lights always indicates that’s the controllers are fully charged. As I mentioned the issue is that whilst playing thy randomly disconnect. When using standard batteries they stay connected just fine. My suspicion is the issue is with the wireless charging batteries themselves.

Hi,
Sorry for the delay in responding, I couldn't find the direct message option easily on mobile device so had to get a laptop to respond. I have sent you a private message about this issue.

@TheTonks  can you compare the height of the normal battery with the dock battery as size can be important. 😉

@oculusness thanks for taking the time to suggest something. It was a good idea. I compared the batteries and funny enough my standard rechargagle batteries that work no problem is actually smaller than the wireless charging batteries that come with the charging dock. Regardless I tried the foil trick anyway but didn't have any luck. To be honest the issue happens mostly with the left hand controller. The right might have the odd issue but nowhere near as frequent as the left controller. Left controller disconnects almost immediately after I insert the battery (if it connects at all). Where as the right very infrequently disconnects. Which makes me think maybe I just have a dud left wireless charging battery....

@TheTonks well at least you gave it a go with the foil. I had to put quite a chunk of foil in the positive terminal recess on the controller as it was a very short terminal pin on the battery. I also had to put foil under the negative terminal to keep the pressure on the positive end.

Ultimately I stripped the hand controller down and re-tensioned the negative plunger spring (stretched it) and now the pressure is enough to make continuous contact with only the foil ball at the positive end.
