Crackling Sound and Cutting off completely

I often experience a crackling noise in my earphones on the rift, and while playing eve valkryie the sound completely cut off, twice, and when I exited the game there was no sound in home either. I had to quite home, and then only when i reloaded home was the sound back.

I have tried moving the headset to another USB port, but this hasn't resolved the issue.

The crackling sounds like interference to me, but the sound cutting off completely sounds like a software problem, and it is rectified by quitting home and starting home again. There are no system alerts in the windows log to suggest a hardware failure.

Try removing the headphones and then putting them back on. They unscrew using the little plastic tool that comes in the box.

im sure it isnt a hardware issue, as if i close home and then restart home they start working again. I suspect something is crashing while i play eve.

Was it another USB port on the same controller?

I used to get lots of crackling, this was back on an Ivy Bridge system, with not quite enough USB ports and a cheap PCIE USB 3.0 card though. I've since moved to a Sky Lake board and all the crackling has gone, I think it'll be interference on the USB bus. Maybe the bus is just overloaded?

Interesting mine is a Ivy bridge system and had the same problem, plugged the rift into my USB3 PCI-E card and all is now fine.

Mine is also an Ivy Bridge. I will have to simply put up with it until I can afford to upgrade my PC. The crackinlg was reduced when i moved to a usb at the front of my unit, but the cutting out I am sure is a software issue

Mine did cut out too until a restarted the software, I moved to a PCI-E USB3 card and all was fixed, as it is I had the card for years and it luckily passed the test.
