So I have a DK2 and my preference is set to Extended (default). Whenever I click direct to rift the game just crashes. So, in order to play DK2 games I have to do the whole set rift as main monitor, lose my icons/taskbar and desperately try to find the folder the game is in so I can play it. Please tell me there's an easier way to do this! I would love to be able to use direct to rift I have a GTX 660
If you cannot get direct to rift to work then go into your monitor properties and set multiple monitors and then make the rift monitor 2. You can drag it to the right of the main monitor. When you run the extended version of the application hold down the ctrl key. Remember to turn on the goggles before running it. When the pop up appears choose display 2 (which is the rift in your extended setup). This will work on some, and not on others.
For me, I can run some direct and I have to run others extended. Learning which to use is an acquired skill that you will get better at over time.
In fact, some for me will only run direct and others will only run extended. So I pin the one that works on my taskbar. Right now I have 6 apps for DK2 that will run extended and 4 that will only run direct. You should be able to make it work with one of the two.
Once I am done with an app I turn the rift off.
So my attempt to open an app goes like this:
1. Turn on goggles. 2. Try direct to rift. 3. didn't work - hit esc - try to get out of the app. turn off goggles. 4. turn on goggles. 5. hold down ctrl key and try to run extended version. 6. when pop up appears choose display 2. 7. this version works but cannot see anything through goggles. 8. hit "r" to recenter and cross fingers. 9. It re-centered and the app is workable. I can see it! 10. All done with app, hit esc. or whatever the menu says to get out. 11. turn off rift. 12. go to next app to try. and repeat process
