DON'T DROP SUPPORT FOR DK1 It isn't a bad product.

It is very hard for me to research for anythign to do with getting this working, I have been through many discussions, and at this point I am convinced you guys are trying to exclude it from future builds. I keep updating things and it's breaking other drivers... I really don't think you need to do this, it's a peripheral, it should have full support. Just as any brand of mouse has full support for windows. Just like any controller, monitor, etc... it's a monitor with a controller connected to it. I can see you guys wanting to do that because it's less work to do. I'm just letting you know I plan on buying CV1, it's well within the budget. The DK1 will mainly be used as a backup on my old PC for other people when they come lan with me.

Either way, I've sent out support emails to like 10 different products that I purchased to do with VR, not a single one has gotten back to me, I am very upset I cannot find a definitive answer on this subject, is support dropped? Is it not dropped? Should I trash it? Wtf do I do, ever since I've formatted, I've been through 3 formats trying to get this damn thing to work again, and it has had luck in the past, so obviously you guys need to stop tinkering with things. Once I finally got it to work, I purchased Vorpx, and I ran into MORE problems and they have yet to return my email. I also purchased Virtual Desktop on steam and I ran into MORE problems. SteamVR works fine, but Virtual Desktop requires me to download 1.3.0 if I want to use it. 1.3.0 breaks my PC and it won't boot into windows.

Definitive.  DK1 does not have support since it can no longer perform it's function as a development kit. Why would they support recreational use of a product that wasn't sold for that purpose. Everyone would rather they work on comparability and stability for the CV1 rather than spend time and resources writing separate drivers for the DK1.  Which is a device that hasn't been available to purchase for almost 2 years and was not meant for playing commercial games.
I know it is frustrating.  I think most people haven't got back to you because everyone knew support was dropped when the DK2 came out and developers were expected to start using that.  Now we are up to the CV1.  You dont have to trash it you can save it for memories this is like asking Microsoft or Sony to support their devkits that were built before the final specs for the PS4 or Xbox1 were in place so those who still have them can play final games.  There isn't exclusion going on here.  The DK1 was always suppose to be trashed once better development tools became available.  It has long been obsolete.

YESS!! I AM A DRIVER INSTALLING DRIVER DELETING GOD!!

Sorry, I get what you're trying to say, but it's a matter of just them bestowing their knowledge of this monitor on my face. Like I installed the 1.3.0 first, before I did anything. Okay? Then I installed the 0.8.0 and for some reason. I don't know why, it is just working. I launched a game using Virtual Desktop, (bear with me I even barely understand how I got it to work.) with Steam VR installed it launched into the game. It works. I am not even sure if 1.3.0 did anything but they all work! 😮

The biggest problem with DK1 is that there is no positional tracking. That can make some games practiacally unplayable if positional tracking is part of the game mechanics.

As much as I would love Oculus to keep supporting DK1 it's just not feasible with SDK 1.3

Firstly Oculus removed the API calls for the DK1 so it was a conscious decision to block it... remember that when you're thinking which HMD to buy.

As for steamVR, with 0.8  you can play ANY VIVE game that supports seated or standing mode.  So while Oculus don't want you to play in their garden, Steam will happily support the DK1 and let you build up a collection of Vive exclusives for when you upgrade.

Oculus support means nothing for DK1 users, only Vive/SteamVR mode work.

Again, don't shoot the messenger... As @Dukealicious is saying, the DK1 is a developer device and development with that hardware has now pretty much been stopped because newer more-final-product-like DK2 is out. Furthermore, DK2 is now only supported because that's the unit most developers* still have and once most developers get their hands on an actual CV1, I'd say it's time to end support of DK2 as well. DK1 and DK2 are not meant for recreational purposes or to demo "Oculus VR" to someone, that's what the final consumer product is now for.

Sending at least some of the Kickstarter units first is also a brilliant move since most of the backers who got the DK1 actually did something with the devices and can update their games and other software asap to be CV1 compatible or if they have already done so with the help of (an additional) DK2 (they've purchased), they can just test with the actual final hardware and thus make sure there's something for everyone to play with in Oculus Home and various other distribution channels.

* official partners etc of course must have had access to engineering samples etc.
