Demeo PC version won't install

I already own Demeo on Quest 2.

I want to install the PC version on my Win 10 Desktop.

So I downloaded and installed the Oculus app (5.2 GB!).

When I select Demeo and click "Install" from the Library tab. It starts downloading the 5.58GB file but starts at 600 MB for some reason. When it reaches about 700 MB or so, it gives up and gives this error in the Notification tab:

Sorry, we couldn't install Demeo. Visit Meta Quest Support for help.

My PC is is Lenovo Thinkstation S30. 32 GB RAM. 4 Core Xeon E5-1620 3.6 GHz

Video Card is NVIDIA Quadro K4000. Driver: 474.30

Also, all I want is the flat version of the game (not the PC VR) so why does it insist on having powerful graphics drivers and high spec'd PC? I get this banner when I launch the Oculus app:

I think my PC is plenty powerful to run flat Demeo.

Is there a way to just download the flat screen PC desktop version without all this hassle?

Update:

I noticed this happends with other apps too. I tried installing Bigscreen and it stopped after a few hundred MBs with the same error message.

Firstly, the customer support for this issue was clueless and had no idea what they were talking about. I only had to buy it once on my Quest VR headset through the App Store. After that, both the flat Desktop and PCVR versions were available for me on the my PC for no additional cost. They kept telling me I had to buy it on some other platform (Steam) etc. *SMH*

As for the download failures, it seems that the Desktop Oculus app is highly sensitive to slow network and fails too readily while attempting to download and install a game over a poor network. This is a bug within the Oculus desktop app since no other windows desktop application fails due to a slow network. It should just take longer to download instead of failing. Even the Oculus Desktop app while installing itself ws able to slowly download all 5.2 GB before completing successfully. My guess is that instead of using a robust and vetted 3rd party tool or library to perform downloads , they are instead using some internal, proprietary tool which is too brittle and prone to failures.

In my particular case, I think that I eventually figured out that rebooting my router fixed the internet speed long enough to allow me to download the game and then everything worked normally. If that doesn't work for you, and since you have a laptop, I suggest you go elsewhere where you have a better internet connection and attempt to download from there.

Good luck!

Hey there, @Frakulus_Quest_II. We can definitely understand how concerning it can be when a game installation isn't completing properly, we'd be glad to help out. If you're trying to install the normal version of the game, and not the VR version, we'd recommend checking Steam or another platform since our desktop application has VR games and VR versions of games instead. Hopefully this helps!

I tried Steam but in order to download the PC version, I have to pay for it. Since I already paid for the Quest 2 version, I was told I could get the Desktop version for free. Do you know of any way to apply my Quest purchase in Oculus Store to Steam?

Why are you suggesting using a different platform than the one you provide? I was told that downloading Demeo from the Desktop Oculus store was for both the PCVR and flat PC edition.

Eventually, I want to use the PCVR version as well and it seems I am blocked from doing so because of the Oculus app. There should be an alternative for me to download it from.

We definitely understand your anxiousness and wanting to download Demeo on your PC. From our understanding though, it appears that you have purchased Demeo for your Meta Quest 2 (Standalone), not the Rift/PC version. With that being said, this particular title is not available for crossbuy (which enables you to play a purchased title on multiple platforms). Steam was recommended previously because you mentioned that you wanted to purchase the game in order to play on your PC, but not for PCVR. Our store ONLY provides titles that are to be enjoyed in a VR environment. We hope this has answered all of your questions! Feel free to reach back out to us if you happen to have any further questions or concerns as we are always happy to help!

There are two issue. The Flat PC version and the PCVR version.

PCVR version:

This makes no sense. When I open Demeo in the Oculus Desktop App Store, it says "Purchased" and only an option to "Install" It doesn't show the price because it knows that I already bought it. It is also listed in my Library in the Desktop Oculus app. If I can't download the PCVR version, then shouldn't it give me the option to buy it then?

How do you propose that I download and install the PCVR version of the Demeo app? If I have to buy it again, how/where do I do that?

Flat PC version:

According to this from Demeo developers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_QTTOdahKE

Demeo says I can launch the flat Desktop version from the Oculus Desktop App but I don't see the option to start in Desktop mode (only the option to Install). Demeo says that the flat PC Edition is absolutely free if I bought it on Quest 2 so where do I get it from? Steam doesn't know what I bought on Quest 2 so what do I do?

Instructions from Demeo's site:

  1. Open your Oculus PC App
  2. Go to your “Library”
  3. Install Demeo if it isn’t already installed (Demeo must have been previously purchased via either the Quest or Rift Store)
  4. Click the “...” button on the Demeo library entry
  5. Select “Start in Desktop Mode”

I am getting stuck on step 3 (Install Demeo) It keeps failing midway through the download.

Since other apps also fail while downloading, then this is an Oculus Desktop app issue. It may be overly sensitive to network slowness which I often get. However, I was able to download the 5.2 GB Oculus Desktop app itself without issue over a slow network so something is wrong with the app itself while downloading giant titles.

I am having the EXACT problem you had. Did you ever get this resolved? I also have slow internet and have previously played Demeo on my desktop using the oculus desktop app. (My old computer died, though, and I'm trying to install it on my new laptop to no avail.)

Thank you so much!! Imagine getting such a quick (and helpful to boot) reply about an issue. I can't imagine anything like this if I'd tried reaching out to Meta.

Again, thank you!! I expect it's just the poor internet I'm using at the moment.

Take care!
