Dk2 Elite Dangerous Blurry Text Solution found!?

Hello all,

I can't begin to tell you how amazing Elite Dangerous is with the DK2. I am blown away. The only small complaint that many people and I have is that the text on menus in game is slightly blurry. Yes, you can lean closer in the cockpit to see it a bit clearer but it really is a bit of a shame that such beauty is a bit marred by only somewhat usable windows.

I searched online and one user came up with a solution as such -

"For those who complain about not being able to read the text very well in the rift... I turned on supersampling with my nvidia card and run the game at 2560x1440 with it being scaled down to 1920x10890 by my Nvidea card. It causes the text to be MUCH more readable and everything clearer"

Does anyone have any thoughts on this process and, more importantly, can anyone please with more detail explain exactly HOW to do what he is describing? I need specific instructions.

Secondly, if this isn't the only solution out there for the blurry text please share any ideas or solutions that you have seen work and solve this problem.

Thanks!

Like others have pointed out, changing the GUI colors can have a significant effect on the text. Personally, I'm using "Nightvision green" from the following guide:

http://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/2p3784/you_can_manually_customize_the_gui_colors/

It makes identifying selected ships harder on the radar, but I can live with that. Could be psychological, but it does seem better to a degree. Maybe play around with those configurations, see if one is better than the rest.

EDIT: But I'm also flying an Eagle, which has the menus closer, so... :geek:

I forgot to mention, but as far as supersampling goes I remember doing it and finding no big difference. Maybe I did something wrong, can't say for sure.

You have to set a custom resolution in the Nvidia panel. It's not complicated, and I'm sure you can google the procedure and find better instructions than I could give.

Think I'll do it again, just to be sure... I'll get back to you later. 😉

Alrighty, then... This time I can confirm it's better. Lines are a little tighter. Also changed resolution in game so the comparison is immediate, and it's definitely improved.

Just go to Nvidia panel - Display - Change resolution - Rift Dk2 - Customize - Create custom resolution - 2560 x 1440, and this resolution should then appear on the Rift for you to select. Enjoy.

EDIT: Too much fps drop for me, though...

Hi,
I've had my DK2 for about 4 months now.
I found this thread on the forum and found it very useful. What I have done is to go into the Navidia display settings as described below and set a custom display setting of 1800 x 1065. I tried the 2560 x 1440 and it worked brilliantly for the text and the overall quality of the graphics was amazing but the game became very jerky on head movements, fights were almost impossible as I was firing where the other ship WAS and not at it.
I messed about with several custom settings and after a lot of play settled on 1800 x 1065, the text is much more readable and the head movement isn't too bad either, I also used the Green HUD settings mentioned and settled on 0.2,0,-1 with -1,1,-1 with 0.17,0.31,1 This gives a good Green with the Red still working for the HUD as well which is important when you're trying to see your opponent in battle!
I've tried playing ED on my normal monitor but keep going back to the DK2 Rift with these settings being used as I can't get enough of the quality and immersive game play the rift gives.
I am also using program I found on the ED Forum called ELITE DANGEROUS DISPLAY SWITCHER V0.40, this allows you to set up your rift for custom resolutions (you can type 1800 x 1065 directly in), FPS setting, hud colour and here's the best bit, it allows your normal monitor to display what you see in the rift so someone can see what you're doing (single pane), I use the Second Window settings of: Primary, Width 1100 and Height 870 which seems to work well.
Hope this helps as I have found it very difficult to find the right info to set up the rift for ED.
I also notice that some people are getting their rifts and saying they don't work, mine only works when the OCULUS CONFIGURATION UTILITY is working in the background, you should have downloaded this if you have followed the crude instructions that came with the rift and followed their website instructions.
I wish I'd have known all this at the beginning, it would have saved me an awful lot of time!!!!
