Dropping fps in a pattern [Solved]

No matter which app or game I use I am getting fps drops in a consistent pattern. With asw off or on auto the game will run for awhile then start dropping from 90 to about 60. If I force it to run at 45fps then it starts dropping into the 20s. I noticed that if I alt-tab on the desktop then this issue stops for a few minutes. It will also go back to normal if I remove the hmd for a second. I was thinking it was a power issue so I disabled whatever suspend functions I could find. Doesn't make sense to me though that the frame drops are in a consistent pattern every time. This is a fresh Windows 10 install with all drivers up to date. But again, with the nature of the way the frames are dropping I doubt it's anything to do with bad drivers. Cpu and Gpu are not getting anywhere close to thermal throttling either. Any help would be greatly appreciated! (sorry if this reads as a jumbled mess. Been trying to fix this all day and my brain is fried.)
Forgot to mention that this is only happening with the Rift, not in my regular games or stress test.

Figured it out by accident. Was playing beat saber and within 5 minutes fps dropped. I had task manager running so as soon as it happened I looked and saw something called updatedg.exe. I went to click on it and it disappeared.  Turns out it is a bitmining virus that kicks in if there is no mouse or keyboard use within 5 minutes.
