EXTREME lagging/frame drop in ANY game (SteamVR & Otherwise) in PCVR

I've been playing PCVR with my quest 2 for years and have had no problems up until ~6-12 months ago when upon loading up Blade and Sorcery, the game became unbearably laggy and was dropping frames constantly. I tried rebooting my computer, reinstalling oculus software, everything. Eventually I gave up and just stopped using VR since. Recently I was reminded of how much I love VR and upon loading it up, same issue. Even after all the updates to oculus, SteamVR, Windows, and Nvidia's drivers, it still does not function even somewhat correctly. However, I decided to test deeper. I have tried using Airlink, changing my refresh rate, changing to the oculus runtime, clearing space on my PC, playing other games, and just running SteamVR Home. What I have found is:

  • Games running through oculus and steamVR both have the issue
  • SteamVR Home has the same problem
  • Reducing graphics quality and refresh rate do not help
  • My cable is in good condition
  • All PCVR games have this issue (SteamVR, Oculus, Roblox VR)
  • My computer is not struggling

As far as I can tell, the framerate is great until suddenly frames are dropped, audio becomes distorted, screen tears, and tracking becomes inaccurate. My specs are also far above what is necessary to run what I am running

Note: I can still run all regular oculus software and games without connecting to a computer, and I can also run the meta home screen while connected to a computer, but I cannot run PCVR applications beyond that.

I've been having the exact same issue across all pcvr games (oculus app and steam vr) with similar specs and have tried all of the provided solutions to no avail. I've tried everything listed in your response as well as clearing space on my hard drive, lowering the refresh rate on my quest 2, turning on overclocking on my pc, checking for updates on my graphic and USB drivers, and deleting save data on games. i also first noticed the issue on blade and sorcery but it happens in every game on pcvr. the game will be running great for about 5-10 minutes and then everything the original comment included happens. none of the times this has happened have any correlation with each other and have seemingly no trigger (for ex. interacting with a physics object or rendering a new area) i first noticed this happening when i got on pcvr for the first time in months a few days ago

i ended up just uninstalling the oculus app without backing up games because i don't have that many games on the oculus app (i mostly just use it to access steam vr) and  it worked 👍 no more lag. thank you!

That's great news @qhdgaming! We are glad things worked out and you are able to use your VR again with ease.
