Good evenin' everyone
So, first of all, I'am a Froggy-Eater (Un français quoi...), so please doesn't matter about my english level...
About the problem, i just unpacked my DK2 this afternoon, installed SDK, runtime and drivers, put every cables in every holes, and, Ô hapiness, the runtime found my headset and the camera.
Next step, i created a profile inside the runtime, and tried to make the measurements with the software in order to have a quite good experience, but I had an error which forced me to force close the process. There's the text:
"Doesn't matter", I thinked. "I'll try the demo". But, I'd got the same error.
Also, the Direct HMD doesn't do anything, and the extended mode gave to me chromatique aberration, but, with this thread (viewtopic.php?f=34&t=11190&start=20), I hope the direct mode will repair this.
I'd see two threads with similaries problems, viewtopic.php?f=34&t=17928 and viewtopic.php?f=34&t=17882 , but i think they can use the demo inside the runtime. I also upload the Report and Minidump :

I had the same problem on Windows 7. I was able to resolve by installing the following:

Had same issue, GTX 970 on Win 8.1--worked great for over a month, then out of the blue launching anything in direct mode would crash 100% of the time (including the built-in desk demo scene).
Can confirm that this fixed it for me:
-uninstall all GeForce drivers and the Oculus Runtime (rebooting as necessary)
-re-install GeForce driver version 344.75 excluding any "3d vision" stuff
-re-install Oculus Runtime version 0.4.4 (latest as of this post)
(I may have also excluded some of the other nVidia/GeForce stuff, can't remember now exactly--but I know I definitely unchecked anything involving "3d vision". So if these steps still don't work for you, try it again removing even more of the non-essential nVidia/GeForce stuff.)
Not sure why re-installing the drivers would make any difference since I didn't upgrade/change them between when it worked and when it stopped working, but either way uninstalling & re-installing them fixed it. Everything including direct mode works great again.

I couldn't go past this post without adding a little tidbit....
I received my OR recently and installed it first time no problems. Everything works that comes with the rift all the demos and demo scene from config utility. No problems.
Then I started downloading a couple of demo's some worked fine but when I went to run one or two of them I would get a message about missing Dlls (xinput1_3.dll, ms...120.dll,).
I googled a remedy and copied the files in (into sysWOW63 and System32) from a machine here with the same op system. The next thing I found was that runtime wouldnt run the oculus drivers; display and tracker, and it asks me to reload the run time software.
Since then I have tried to reload multiple time by uninstalling all the oculus stuff in Programs and Features in Windows (7, pro 64) and reinstalling the run time software but to no avail.
I still get this exact same wall of text ending with the thing about '...reporting settings' that you all seem to mention.
I think there must be something left in the registry that is interfering, i will try unloading and reinstalling geforce drivers too, and get back.
I received my OR recently and installed it first time no problems. Everything works that comes with the rift all the demos and demo scene from config utility. No problems.
Then I started downloading a couple of demo's some worked fine but when I went to run one or two of them I would get a message about missing Dlls (xinput1_3.dll, ms...120.dll,).
I googled a remedy and copied the files in (into sysWOW63 and System32) from a machine here with the same op system. The next thing I found was that runtime wouldnt run the oculus drivers; display and tracker, and it asks me to reload the run time software.
Since then I have tried to reload multiple time by uninstalling all the oculus stuff in Programs and Features in Windows (7, pro 64) and reinstalling the run time software but to no avail.

Hi back again ... Nope it didn't work... uninstalled all Oculus, uninstalled old and reloaded more current video drivers (which took all day). reloaded runtime and drivers for Oculus.

well, I am working now... If i didn't have a restore point to fall back on I would have definitely been cleaning the registry after uninstalling everything again. Something obviously gets left in there. Definitely the problem seems to be something in the config of windows that's preventing it loading.Probably a dodgy .dll or something.

I have been having the same problem since this thread began. I get the orange light and the same ACCESS_VIOLATION exception as everyone else when i try to run the config demo.
Definitely not just an nVidia problem. Both my PCs are ATI. FYI, on my Macbook the DK2 runs just fine. It's running on a GeForce series nVidia card. I'm curious exactly how many people this problem is affecting. Seems like a LOT, and for those who don't have a Mac, their shiny new DK2 is now a shiny brick.

I am getting a similar problem with the following setup:
The exception occurs when starting the demo scene in "Oculus Configuration Utility" (OCU).
I have noticed that sometimes the OCU crashes after the exception, some other times it does not.
Also, I often got a message telling that the display driver has stopped working and was recovered for "Intel HD Graphic ... on HDMI ...".
I think the problem could be related to the integrated GPU of my laptop which is handling the HDMI port. Perhaps this setup is not correctly handled by the Oculus display driver and DtR mode.
I have managed to get it working only in extended desktop mode, which is not the optimal experience.
Could you please find a solution to this issue ?

Hi All,
I´m getting the same "Exception encountered in RiftConfigUtil" while trying to run anything using Direct Mode.
Has anyone found a solution to this?
