Explore menu disappears when I point at it

Explorer

I dusted off my Quest 1 a few weeks ago, and found that if I click on Explore, a big window comes up where I'm assuming I could, you know, explore, but when I point to anything in the window it disappears.

I've done a factory reset and complete re-configure. Hardware is working fine in every respect - I can open Settings or Applications and interact fine. Just not the Explore window. Can anyone help?

Hi @kzabbott and @vwalton although the current version for your devices does not support Horizon Feed, this should not affect your experience with any other apps.
You both should be able to still enjoy your Meta Quest experience.
However, you could suggest the idea of including this feature for legacy users in our Ideas Forum, following this link: https://communityforums.atmeta.com/t5/Ideas/idb-p/Ideas

I am experiencing the exact same thing.  Original Quest 1 which I had been using until a few months ago.  I picked it up again last week when my 16 year old nephew was visiting, and wanted to explore things, but like @vwalton when I point to anything in the Explore window, it disappears.

I, too, have done the factory reset and complete reconfigure.  Other than the left controller draining batteries faster than I change my socks, the hardware is all working fine and all other windows and applications are working fine.

FWIW:

Software Update: 49805030423900410

Version: 50.0.0.195.455.910822

Runtime Version: 50.0.0.195.455.911078

OS Version: user-49805030423900410

Well it's comforting at least to know there's someone else out there! Let's hope there's a fix other than "buy a Quest 3."

Hi there, @vwalton

Hi there! Thanks for sharing this issue here. It seems like you're having trouble with the Explore feature on your Quest 1. Let's see what we can do!

We see that you've already tried some steps to resolve this issue. We're sorry to hear that this didn't work!

In order to review this issue further, we have a few questions:

  • Are you able to launch other applications?
  • When did this start? Were any changes made?
  • Is the Home Environment having any issues?

We look forward to hearing from you!

Hi there and thank you for responding!

All other applications are working - only Explorer is having issues

For me, this was fist noticed on 7/27/2024, although I had not used my Meta Quest 1 in probably 3 months.  I did not make any changes, but perhaps an update installed or something?  Is there a log I can look at/upload for you?

If by "Home Enivronment" you mean my own WiFi setup, etc, that's all very stable.  I'm using a Deco mesh router, which now that I think about it may be a new factor since the last time I used my Quest 1, but cannot think of why that might affect Explore when all other apps are working.

  • I am able to launch any other app other than Explore, and point and click all I want.
  • I first noticed it about 2 weeks ago, having picked up my Quest after more than a year of not thinking about it.  I tried various things such as rebooting, running updates, and finally factory reset. I was very surprised that the reset didn't work.
  • Like @kzabbot I'm not sure what you mean by Home Environment, but if you mean wifi etc, sure there have probably been changes in the past year-plus, but everything is working fine.

Hi there, @kzabbott and @vwalton . Thank you for updating us on your cases.
We can confirm that with the release of v.57, the Explore landing page was replaced by Horizon Feed.
Although, this version was not released for Meta Quest 1, we are happy to confirm you have both been able to enjoy all your other apps without any issues.

OK @MetaQuestSupport , so does that mean @vwalton and I are just SOL and the answer, as @vwalton feared is "buy a Quest 3" or will something be done to fix this app or release Horizon Feed for all legacy users like us?

Yeah that's about what I figured. Is there a way to acquire a previous version of the firmware and load it?
