External Mic mutes sound from headset?

So. I have an external USB C mic that i'm using. But whenever I plug it in, it mutes all sound coming from the actual quest 3 headset. I did a bit of recording without sound, and the mic seems to work OK.

Upon restarting with the mic plugged in, I hear a split second of the startup sound, and then it goes silent till the mic is pulled. Anything i'm missing here?

2. Try checking that the volume is on with the application, game, or software you're using.
3. Try using a different microphone.
4. Make sure noting is in the way of the microphone or covering the mic.
5. Make sure the USB is compatible with the device.
6. Try a different USB cable to connect the mic.
7. Test the mic on a different device.

Well, after much digging I found deep in the instructions of my mic that "connecting will mute all other sound" which makes absolutely no sense. I plan on getting a different USB C headset. Is there a compatibility list anywhere? Or would most USB C plug in and play headsets work.
