Well, this is NOT true.
I connect my Meta Quest 3 to my PC using a USB-C cable. This is how I copied 360 pictures captured with my Insta360 X3 to my headset local storage. When connected to the PC, you can see the Quest 3 folders and copy files directly to the proper one.

I looked to see if I could paste a transcript of the conversation I had with Meta Tech Support on my original post, but when they told me this yesterday they were not using WhatsApp as they had been before so I had no transcript. My tech support person, Madeline, or Madelyn or however her name is spelled told me that Meta does not have that capability-- and it certainly didn't work for me. Best of luck to everyone going through this.

I also think Meta's configuration changes over time-- note they WERE compatible with Mac for version 11.4, but no longer.

Sorry, that was MacOS version 13.4 rather than 11.4. Still, that version is 1 1/2-2 years old. https://www.meta.com/en-gb/help/quest/articles/headsets-and-accessories/using-your-headset/transfer-.... It's great that Phone Manager works with the latest version, but the support team referred me to the article above as the latest version that the MQ3 supports. I did try the Android File Transfer app using the correct port on the headset with my latest MacOS version, but that app did not work.

Hi... I still can't get consistent results trying to transfer files between my Windows 11 PC and my Meta Quest 3 headset... I posted a new conversation in this forum concerning my experiences

James, just want to make sure that if you’re using the battery headset strap, that you are disconnecting the plug from the strap into the main headset and plugging the transfer/link cable from the PC directly into the USB-C port on the headset. The port on the battery strap is power-only and does not pass through data. This one had me tripped up for weeks. I was never able to make file transfers work on the PC, but I was finally able to it work on my Mac using the Mac Android Phone Manager app that KGy47 pointed out earlier. Welcome to the Meta Quest Beta test team! You won’t be paid for your efforts.

Hi... I am using just the original headstrap that is part of the Meta Quest 3 package. I am familiar with the headstraps that include a battery attachment, but I am plugging the cable into the one headset USB-micro C connector that allows for both data transfer and power charging. In fact, one of the cables I used in my testing was the white cable that came with the Meta Quest 3 unit with its charging brick. That cable had a USB-micro C connector at both ends. Having one end plugged into the headset, if I plug the other end of that cable into the power brick which in turn is plugged into an AC outlet, the headset gets charged (and I hear a tone in the headset when the connection is made). When I use that very same cable, plugged into the very same connector on the headset, and plug the other end into the 3.1 USB-micro C port on my Windows 11 PC, I can do data transfers with the cable with no problem, as long as I get the USB connection notice in my headset. Again, the key for me is getting that notice, which happens inconsistently. And yes, I get the "connection-is-made" tone from both my headset and from my computer.

Hey there, @james.cooper.98031! While the white cable that comes included with the Quest 3 is vetted for charging purposes, it's not rated for data transfer. We encourage you to use a more powerful cable when attempting data transfer, such as our Quest Link Cable.
That being said, since version 60, at the top of the Developer options is the new feature MTP Notification. When toggled on, allows you to connect your headset via USB to the PC, just as before. When plugged in, a notification will pop up for you to click, simply to allow it to connect-one click, and you're in! We've removed the other options to select (or accidentally misclick on). To disallow, simply toggle the feature off. This prompt should appear any time the cable is actively inserted into the headset; if it doesn't prompt, unplug and re-seat it.
We hope this information was helpful- if anyone has any other questions or issues, please let us know!
