This is resolved. New headset firmware allowed remote firmware to install. I didn't realize my dk2 was still plugged in which may have blocked the firmwares.
I received my headset in the mail last night and experienced this exact same issue. I had to skip the setup process in OculusSetup.exe, and I can only verify I completed it up to and including the remote.
My setup claimed the remote firmware was updated successfully, but even now in the store it still complains there is a firmware update available. I am able to use my rift, but I'm not sure I've done all the calibration necessary.
I have never owned another VR headset, no DK2, and this was on a fresh install of windows 7 professional.
