Fix for Sensor Disconnection Issue

cybereality

We've just started rolling out a possible fix for the repeated sensor disconnection issue. This is a problem that could cause the sensor to disconnect while idle on certain hardware configurations. Although we had some trouble reproducing the exact problem in our lab, we have a good idea of what the core issue was and believe it may be resolved.

Some customers have already received the update, and everyone else should have it within a few hours. The update should happen automatically, but you'll have to just unplug and replug the sensor to reset its state.

I'd recommend people wait until later this evening to test and see if the fix actually resolves their issue. Either way, please report back so we can understand if the fix was a success. Thanks.

Hi, obviously I give back the sensor for the replace. I know it sounds strange,
but that's what I found after hours and hours of testing:
in the dark I have no USB disconnection

So.. While I have not yet tested in in total darkness, for those of you who got it working in the dark, can do you a test for me?

While in the dark, hold both hands infront of the visor on your head. This causes the colors to fade out when it loses connection to the sensor. When that happens, does your computer still lose connection to the sensor?

Just a theory I had, because every time mine lose connection to the sensor, I first see the colors fade for a second or two, as if I had move out of sensor range. If its the lost connections between the rift and the sensor that causes the sensor drop, you should be able to replicate it just by holding your hands in front of the rift (or just moving out of sensor range)...

"Fix" has broken it. I used to have the repeated dis/connect issue only when I wasn't wearing the headset (for the sensor only) and it therefore never bothered me.

Since the update, however, it has become a problem. Now it is disconnecting whilst I am wearing the headset, too, and causing an unacceptable problem.

It is connected to the Inatek USB3 card recommended by Oculus - but if I try it in other USB 3 slots, it's just the same. Think I'll plug it into a powered USB 2 card and try that.

PS - tracking is still fine, despite it saying my sensor is disconnected.

Has anyone had any luck by checking their VC2012 redistributable versions?  I had sensor disconnects when idle after a game installed the VC2012 redistributables.  I uninstalled / reinstalled all 2012 redistributables with the latest 11.0.61030, and no more sensor disconnects.  Maybe worth a quick check if anyone is having issues.  It could be totally unrelated, but it seemed to work for me.

As far as I know, there should only be one x64 and one x86 at the most for 2012... so it seemed a bit strange.

After weeks of tests , i finally found the cause of the sensor disconnections ( at least for my case ) : the sunlight . If I use Rift in the dark, I have no problem . Instead of during the day, with sunlight through the window, disconnections start again . Support asks me to send back the sensor for replacement. I hope this post can help other users with the same problem.

Lukesv can you advise me on what steps you took regarding getting your faulty sensor sent back please. Eventually after days of trying to figure out what was actually effecting my sensor, it seems that the reason ive been having so many disconnections is also cos of the sunlight. I tested it several times during the day time, my rift been near the window, disconnects every 30 secs or so, then in the dark or at night, absolutely no disconnections at all! So going from disconnections every 30 secs to been able to have hours of none interrupted game play just by how dark it is in my room at the time.. thanks in advance!

Thanks for the information. This may help us get to the bottom of the problem.

@cybereality installed Fresco Logic 3.6.8.0 windows 10 drivers.
http://www.inateck.com/media/attachment/file/f/l/flusb3.0-3.6.8.0a.exe

Rebooted, confirmed they were correct in Device Manager, checked Oculus Settings/Devices to make sure the USB driver warning was gone and both were listed as 3.0 connections.

Still disconnects, please see logs attached.

Guys - I have reinstalled the redistributable files in the oculus -> Redistributables folder and have thus far put over 30 laps of Imola in Assetto corsa with my wheel as per how I always had it. My sensor is plugged into a usb extention cable (doubt this helped) and shows as USB 2.0. HMD is in USB 3.0 port. I usually run Teamspeak while gaming and I normally default the Rifts Mic and headphones as primary, I currently just have default settings (gaming headphones and mic selected)

I had one minor in-game positional warp but that was it. Obviously more trialing to follow, but I've probably tried most remedies here to no avail.

If the oculus Visual Redistribution files are broken, it will cause the software to not function correctly and thus, HMD and Sensor disconnections. I am running latest windows update and latest Oculus software.

I'm holding my breath that this has fixed it because I couldn't even do 3 laps without a disconnect.
