Fixed: new Quest 3 spazzes out when my wife wears it now, but fine for me.

Update: No idea why it happened or what fixed it, but the Quest 3 magically started working again on it's own.

I think threatening it with a factory reset and being sent to live with Mark Z did the trick. 😆

Will be keeping it an eye on it though. I don't like it when new $800 machines do weird things like this for no obvious reason.

Hi. Hoping someone can help. Got a weird problem. Had my Q3 for a week now.

Works every time I put it on. Also worked the first and only time my wife tried it on the day it arrived.

However she wanted to give it a proper try out today, so I set it up, cast it to the TV so I could help her navigate things. However, when she puts it on menus and controllers appear correctly in pass through.
(This also happens even if the MQ3 is not casting)

Everything is setup stock. No settings have been changed from factory.

She starts an app, any app, Quest asks her to map out her area, she maps, hits confirm, then nothing. You can hear the app or games audio, but screen stays in passthrough or goes black. No app showing. However when I take it off her, to look, the app appears. Same as when she moves it away from her face, it will appear, but when she put it back on properly it goes back to black or passthrough.

Then after a bit all controls stop. all you see is pass through, no menu's or over lays on the controllers, only the blue boundary ring on the floor is visible and I need to hold down the power button to reboot it.

Thing is, it is only doing it for her. I put it on, load an app or game and every thing works just fine.

First and only time she used it, there was no issues with me taking the headset off and passing it to her. Every thing just worked.

Her hair is tied back, there is nothing blocking the 'sensor', tried it both with and without her glasses, she doesn't wear make up, no jewellery, or anything else I can think of that would be interfering with the HMD. (No metal plates or microchips in her head.)

Again it works just fine for me when I put it on. Just seems to hate her now for some reason.

Only way it shows anything for her after she starts an app is to hold the headset a cm or two from her face then things reappear.

Can any one help me solve this puzzle? Makes zero sense. Especially how it crashes and needs a reboot every time we try to get it to work with her.

I am honestly stumped. Any help would be massively appreciated.

Hi @RabidRaccoon this is an odd one. Have you tried increasing the depth of the facial interface.  Hold down the button on one side while holding the edge of the interface and slide the interface forwards or backwards to adjust the distance. This may give you enough distance for the headset to work. Are you always casting when your wife is wearing the headset?

One of the meta support bots will be along shortly to attempt to help.

Alternatively, replace wife and try again. 😉

Four Rift CV1s, Quest 2, Quest 3.

Yeah tried everything. Slid the interface in, slid it out. Did everything one could expect to do short of tearing it down and rebuilding it, or a simple factory reset.

Good news is it has magically come right on its own and is now working properly again.

Maybe it was threatening it with a factory reset if it was still borked after the next reboot?

No idea. It's working now is all I know. But thanks for the suggestions any way.

And nah on the wife. Her warranty might have run out years ago (mine too), but she thankfully still works 100% as intended. 😉

I mean her proper first time with VR and this happens and after sitting there for 30 minutes seeing this thing stuffed, once it works her response is "I think I'm going to get one too."
If that's not proof she's a keeper, I don't know what is?

No VR or game could ever bring me the joy she does. 🥰
