So a VR developer friend picked up a Quest 2 from someone she knows on the cheap and sent it my way. She sent her referral link along with it.
Right away, the moment I register my Meta account, and before I can even use the headset itself, it tells me I am suspended. I have "30 days to disagree with the decision" and ultimately I have to submit a picture of my face. This is weird to me -- I am deliberately trying to keep my Meta and Facebook accounts separate, because I've heard horror stories, and given I just got INSTANTLY banned I'd say those stories are true. So the idea I'd have to submit a photo of my face to verify my identity to Meta seems really suspicious to me given they shouldn't know who I am, but I digress. I give them a picture and the webpage hangs, but after a refresh it seems everything is good to go.
Upon booting the headset up it already appears to be factory reset; a totally fresh install.
I go to accept my friend's referral link and it says I am "unable to accept referral." I "may not be eligible because the country or region may not be supported" (not true, I'm in the USA), I "referred myself" (not true), I "already accepted this referral" (not true), or I "do not meet the age requirements" (not true, I am 41 years old). I figure maybe it's mad I didn't connect it to the Facebook account it knows I have (both on my phone and my desktop), but connecting it to my Facebook does not help. Friend says not to worry about it right now.
I've been playing with the headset just fine the last three days but this referral stuff nags at the both of us so I start digging around in my Meta account.
Weird thing: some pages in my Meta account correctly identify that I have a Quest 2 and list the correct model number. Other pages say I have no device registered. Trying to contact support, they won't help me unless I have a device registered to my account and support cannot find my Quest 2. Even when I provide the serial number of the Quest 2 device listed in my own Meta account.
What's going on here? What am I supposed to do? The referral money is one thing, but if I can't even get tech support on this thing, that's a little worrying.

The headset is probably still registered to another account. The original owner likely needs to remove the device from their account.
