This game from 2016 still stands out as a real gem in a catalog of mindless shooters and no creativity in environments - hmm another burned out urban area, how creative.
Different ships, different enemies, so many different weapons. Give us a better gameplay loop with varying missions and some good progress rewards and you would have a real game that everyone would want to play.
So I tried circling back to this game after getting a new PC and it just crashes while loading. I had a couple of months of emails back and forth with Meta customer service. No less than 20 different people contacted me and most of them seemed like they didn't read my email or any of the previous emails. One of them actually thought I was trying to load the game on a mobile HMD.
One single email gave instructions to edit something and this allowed me to play the game for about an hour, but next time I restarted it was back to crashing on load. The ONE person who got it right, I was never able to get them again. I will admit, I am no PC expert so I only followed the instructions, I did not understand what I was doing or how what was done allowed the game to load where it was previously crashing.
I have included a screenshot of those instructions.
My processor is 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13700K
If anybody can help me get the game going it would greatly be appreciated. This game deserves a reboot, or sequel. Here's an idea, you become a ship captain and complete various missions rebuilding society on all of those planets wiped out in the original game. Back To Other Suns.
Last note : I can do this with a cable, or with any of the wireless methods. My favorite is Virtual Desktop but I will use whatever works. For that hour I was able to use Virtual Desktop.
I've never had the chance to play From Other Suns but it looks like it could be right up my street!
The issue of crashing during start up seems to be fairly common and some users are reporting that it may be linked to Virtual Desktop, where the fix you have provided works but only temporarily if they have Virtual Desktop running.
Could you try running the game with Virtual Desktop disabled and see if that solves your problem. There also seems to be more success with Air Link specifically. Give those a try and hopefully we can get you back into the reaches of outer space again soon!
