Hi. My sister has a Quest 3, so she gave me her old original Quest. She did a factory reset then I took it home. I setup my Meta account and started the process to setup the headset. It got to where it was doing an update to my left controller, and it took forever. I left it doing its thing and went to the grocery store. Half an hour later, it was still updating. Left it alone. Came to check on it a few hours later, my phone was dead and the Quest was in a black void. So I turned the headset off and plugged the phone in.
Today I fire it up and I see it saying to continue setup in the app. So I open the app and I already see the headset in there. I figure well, I'll do the add again as it seems the headset doesn't think it's added. I get to the point where the app tells me to get the 5 digit code in the headset, but the headset is still at the "continue setup in app" screen. So I power down then reboot into the service menu and factory reset it again.
Now it has rebooted post reset and I started the joining process over again. I got past the code this time. I get to wifi and choose my SSID then enter my p/w. Now it sees the controllers then it last goes to the safety screen. I see this:
...and that's the end. Nothing happens for many minutes. I tried hitting play, rewind, fast forward, clicked all over and nothing responds save the arrow to take me back a step.
Any idea what to do? Thanks!

@Strahan the current horizon phone app is not compatible with the original Quest and Go headsets.
Download an older version of the mobile app to your phone and try the setup again.

Thanks, I used the July 2024 version and that worked for me.

@Strahan I'd still advise raising a ticket with meta support, just to highlight yet another software failure.

Your link doesn't allow to download another version of Meta App, but Aptoide only... where you can't find Meta App...

@Gilgafrange I just downloaded 2 versions of the APK file from the site.
